Alphasim/Virtavia Victor

SOH-CM-2025
Just reading Roland Whites Vulcan 607, great book by the way, and was wondering about Victors for my sim, i knew there was an Alpha/Virtavia payware model but it seems to have dissapeard from the Virtavia sites, just wonder'd if its in line for a freeware release or its being updated for FSX.
cheers ian

Ian,

there was a basic FSX native conversion released as a free update to existing owners way back when they were still Alphasim. I have it somewhere, never used though. The FS9 one gets plenty of use.

It's not on the Virtavia freeware site, nor as payware on SimMarket.

UKmil has a freeware Victor to, plus an AI, but it has mirrored upper/lower wing texs IIRC. So Corporate paints ain't possible, just Hemp as supplied. The player aircraft is fine though.

Jamie

Id forgoton about the UKmil model, just try'd it and im impressed, the VC 's a little clunky but its modelled really well for such a complicated shape, sound set cool also :salute:
cheers ian

There are another couple of Victor models over at Flightsim;hpvicmk1.zip, a Mark 1 package by Chris Hodgson (good externals, but no VC - actually no panel at all, but a 2D can be swapped in); and hp80vict.zip, two models B Mk 2 and K Mk 2, made by .... yep, that man Itosan. Again, decent externals, FDE is rubbish, but if you were looking at it for AI that could be swapped out anyway.

Ito's done one aswell ! mind you, there isnt a lot he has'nt done :icon_lol:

Hi Jamie, did you make up your own landclass and mesh as well as the airfield, your's looks really volcanic, the stock Assension just looks like a tropical island.
cheers ian

Look for ascension.zip on Avsim Ian.

Ian,

the landlass and mesh were freeware from one of the big sights, I forget developer, but a search for Ascension/wideawake turned them up for me. I only did the afcad, removed a stock file to bring the humps near the runway closer, the stock file flattens them to further away, and then added buildings and such with EZScenery. Then started on traffic. The task forces are the ones that originated as part of Portsmouth Highrise, someone put them East of the Falklands and then over at UKMil they added them to several other locations, including Ascension.

I'll try digging , see if I can find out.

Jamie

PS. Matt, If you intend doing any Blackbuck Shrike armed paints, theres a common texture in the root texture folder of the sim, copy and paint this into your repaint folder then you can add the hastily applied missile camo like I did, but you'll do it better, mine was even more hasty than the real things. You can see what I mean in my pics above.

will do.... i've a new technique up my sleeve and will utilise.... only one has been told of it that's how secret i'm being with it :icon_lol: will be starting off by redoing the famous XM607, Martin Withers' aircraft.... saw the real Vulc at the weekend, was doing a flypast at the national memorial arbouretum just down the road and went screaming over the local woodland at low level... what a sight and noise!

Ian,

you beat me to it, mine was done by eye, so a more accurate one would be very welcome. The borders to the runway, etc were quite a challenge for a novice like me back in 2009.

The bmp is 'VulcWeap_t.bmp', here is my dirty version :)

it goes in the 'texture.XM597' folder.

Hi Matt, thanks for the offer, but it looks like very few structures there to be modelled, a few shacks, porto cabins and the odd T2 hanger is all i can make out, im using the google earth image to get my bearings but i think the areas abit more built up now than it was 30 years ago, i think i can get by using MAIW librarys and adapting some of my own spare FSDS objects, i shall sit down later tonite with a coffee and trawl google for images.
An open question to anyone reading, do you suppose the control tower is in the same position as in the FS9 stock tower location, wonder what it looked like.
cheers ian

A downside of search engines, sometimes when i google Wideawake, im sometimes directed too
Timmy Mallett and the Wide awake club, there are somethings about ones childhood you dont want to be reminded off :icon_eek:
Most forum members wont have a clue what im on about, its probably best that way--

cheers ian

View attachment 66063The tower is in the wrong place by default.

I'll see what I can find. Also, take a closer look at the pics in Vulcan 607, IIRC they do show some stuff. There's also a couple or so period shots on GE itself.

Jamie

Edit, can't find my old pics, must be lost, but seem to remember the tower being as shown.
