Alphasim's B-66 Destroyer now freeware

The B-66 was one of the first Alphasim ship I ever bought. One of my favorite. Great VC too. No complaints about any Alphasim plane I have, and I have lots of em!

I want to state the same.I purchased the 66 a couple of years ago and have not really stopped flying it.The Destroyer along with the A-3 have dominated my Alphasim flight logs,a tribute to all the Alphasim creators craftsmanship.:salute:

If anyone wants our updated flight model files for FS9 just PM me with your email address. The FSX package also includes new airdam textures to plug up that hole folks who had previously flown it in FSX have seen -- not an issue in FS9.

Frank,

How much of a difference will the "average" simmer see as opposed to what's currently there? In other words, for folks who aren't up on all the intricacies of what tweaking an FDE will accomplish (like me, lol) will it make that much difference?:salute:

I'm going to defer that to Mal998 since he was doing the imputting to the aircraft.cfg file. We worked on the B-66 after we had finished with the FSX A-3 flight model rebuild. I could give you our game plan for the A-3 but it might not be applicable to the B-66. I'll ping Mal998 and see if he can answer your question.

In the meantime as I compare the two aircraft.cfg files I see the following changes in the updated version: slower times for gear extention and gear retraction, inceased yaw_damper_gain under [autopilot], reduction in cruise_lift_scaler under [flight tuning], increase in pitch_stability under [flight tuning], reduction in elevator_trim_effectiveness under [flight tuning], and faster extenting-times for the [Flaps].

Our intention was to make the FS9 FDE fly closer to the published specs than we felt it did previously. Hope this helps.

Was able to download on my wife's netbook using Vista Basic and IE8. I could right click and "save as" MSI then download to flash drive. On my rig, Win 7-64 running IE9, it saves as a text file. Any ideas???

Install Firefox.
EI9 is garbage, following the tradition set by IE8/IE7/IE6 .........etc.

Yep, have to agree with that, Firefox was (until recently) my browser of choice; however, I'm now using Google Chrome much of the time and very impressed with the results so far.

Hi Falcon,
In answer to your question, yes, what we did does make a difference, although the changes for this particular aircraft are subtle we felt several issues needed to be addressed. One of the original flight characteristics had the aircraft wanting to climb no matter how you set the trim. This is a common problem with lots of flight models. You take off and all the plane wants to do is climb. When you do a lot of multiplayer like we do this can be exasperating if your trying to hold formation. So we tried to reign that in a bit. It's still not perfect, but it is more manageable. We addressed flap-lift issues. We looked at aircraft turning radius. We looked at thrust and speed capability, and braking ability. The changes are designed to make for a smoother and more manageable flight experience throughout the envelope.

The real test is in how people enjoy the ride. Hopefully they will.
