• There seems to be an uptick in Political comments in recent months. Those of us who are long time members of the site know that Political and Religious content has been banned for years. Nothing has changed. Please leave all political and religious comments out of the forums.

If you recently joined the forums you were not presented with this restriction in the terms of service. This was due to a conversion error when we went from vBulletin to Xenforo. We have updated our terms of service to reflect these corrections.

Please note any post refering to a politician will be considered political even if it is intended to be humor. Our experience is these topics have a way of dividing the forums and causing deep resentment among members. It is a poison to the community. We appreciate compliance with the rules.

Am I Crazy...?

First of all, thank you for your nice responses.

Overall it seems that we mustn't mention the subject to friends and family!
Act like a secret agent, and share information only with the fellow flight simmers on SOH!
It is just so sad that so many people are not open minded!

As for Nigel, I cycled to Pevensey this morning for a jazz breakfast.
Great pint of Harvey's with scrambled egg + bacon....
So strange you had to mention that! (different pub though).

OK, I will keep everything to myself in future...
Especially the MS Flight experience! (It's crap).

Keep FS9 going! The best that ever happened to us!

Thank you all for being there! :icon29:

I have begun to suspect that all true "flyers" are born rather than made, since there does seem to be a huge amount of blank incomprehension of flying by those that don't appreciate it... thus the issues with noise complaints around airports, Mayor Daley, etc.
For my part, I tend to get from my friends more of the "Oh, that's cool" type of response when my hobby comes up. Then, the topic quickly moves on! In fact, in the groups of people I tend to move with, any sort of video game is regarded a slightly uncool - and the includes such famous things as Halo! The last good video game, even among my peers, seems to have been Super Smash Brothers for the Nintendo 64.
In short, it isn't an issue. We just happen to exist in that small overlap between the "Gamers" and the "Flyers," and most of humanity belongs to neither class.

It could be worse, if like me you enjoy a round or two of golf. Well at least I get out occasionally. lol

Ah, now golf is a different matter. we all know what Mark Twain said about that! And Robin Williams doesn't exactly love it ......

heeey! leave golf alone, i enjoy ambling round a course, enjoying the game, the sportsmanship and the scenery, (for those that are golfers clubs are currently Nike Slingshot Irons, Dunlop 65i wedges, 65i & Footjoy Shoes, 65i bag, footjoy gloves & Callaway HX Tour balls :icon_lol:) you can all wake back up now:icon_lol:, this is the joy of life, everyone is diverse, what pleases one may not please another, and the other forms an opinion of something they haven't tried, can't mock it if you haven't tried it... i once ridiculed my cousin as a kid for jumping out of aircraft... then i jumped out of one and needless to say i was treated to the "i told you so's" for a couple'a years...

what everyone has said, i cannot agree more with... if you enjoy it... Sod 'em not worst wasting yer breath on them, just keep doing what you enjoy doing.... me.... think i'll go down the driving range and be a role model for the next generation of golfers :icon_lol:

My wife comes home and sees me staring at the computer. "Whatcha doooin?"

I tell her I'm downloading ASTER GDEM data from the DEMEX website... I'm going to correct it with SRTM patching and water-masking, and then see how it looks in CFS2. I tell her I'm testing a C# program I made to replace bogus elevational features in the ASTER DATA.

She walks away.
