Sorry that it is in German but the pilot gets to say a few words in English;)

The good ol' workhorse seems to be the only plane suited for this type of polar research. The German guys have a Canadian pilot flying for them who can "read the ice".

That is the only way they are sure of being safe when landing on the ice with skis which is one of the reasons for the DC3.

What an amazing combination of old and new aviation technology, science and seat-of-the-pants flying!

I wonder what engines this version has?
 
I think all turbo Daks are built or converted in Oshkosh WI at KOSH. We have one at CGAS Travers City on loan for testing and trials.
