Fast is fast. He's just trained his left foot better to suit his style of music. His arms are still arguably faster than any drummer that's ever lived. The only person I've seen with arms as accurate and fast is Neal Peart. The two are each other's only competition for fast rolling fills. I'll bet Neal can't play that blast beat at the end of Joey's warm up.
 
I'm surprised that no-one has said it yet, but being the fastest doesn't make you the best. In fact it doesn't even make you good, it just means you've practised lots.

soooooooo, exactly what does make you the best? I'm struggling with your comment. If you can do everything other drummers can do, but you can do it faster, more complicated and accurate, and you've practiced way more than everyone else such as Joey Jordison, you're still not better than some decent shmoe who plays wings songs?

Please, do tell. What makes a drummer better than other drummers?

well in my mind, not just hitting everything as quickly and as loudly as you can as well as being able to play a rythem, Neil Peart is a good example of a good rythem
 
IMHO, as I am a drummer, (Used to make my living that way for 15yrs and taught for 7) there is no best drummer in the world. Too many styles to play. Unless you can play every style there is flawlessly, your not the best. I've been told that I'm very good at what I do, but I know as a musician that I can't play all styles well and can really appreciate drummers who can multiple styles good. For instance, I mostly played in the rock, top 40/ fusion style. Now I can play traditional blues shuffles, but not like the really cool cats. Their so smooth. I'm more stiff when trying to play like that. You got to be able to groove and stay in the pocket. Soloing is a whole other thing, but it's nice when it's still musical.
The cool thing is there seem to be soooooooooo many more really good drummers out there these days. If you guys want to see a lot of good players go check out http://www.drummerworld.com and click on the video section. There's probably close to 100 different guys on there. All of the big names and also names you never heard of. All of them can play. Some better than others. We also all have different tastes musically. One of us may think someone is REALLY good and someone else might think not such a big deal.

No, I don't have any video's of myself playing to post. My playing for a living stopped in 1998. If I could figure out how to post an MP3 file I could post some songs of my last band. All original stuff, but we still did covers too.

It's one of those "if you have to ask, you'll never know" situations I'm afraid. Needless to say there is far more to any aspect of music than blazing speed and practising for eleventy hours a day.

Thanks for the sentiment, but I've been playing drums for quite a while, and I'm pretty decent.

You made a fairly rude and uppity comment, and it doesn't even really fit the situation:

1. I linked to a drummer, which you expressed dissaproval. Fair enough. This thread is here to discuss these things, and talk about what we do and don't like.

2. I asked you to explain yourself in a very non-confrontational way by asking the standards by which you judge drummers. You responded with: "if you have to ask, you'll never know". You clearly missed the point of my question. I wasn't asking for you to educate me, I was challenging you to explain your odd comments.

You're also downplaying the importance of practice? Are you even a musician? What instrument(s) do you play?

Please hear this: Not liking Joey Jordison is one thing, and everyone is entitled to their own opinion. However, be positive that he has been the world's best known and most widely celebrated drummer for several years now. His genre of music requires furious speed and rediculously complicated playing, and he's leading the cutting edge. I don't like Celine Dion in the slightest bit, but there's no denying that her voice is powerful and legendary, and there's no questioning that she leads her genre.

Thanks for the awesome link!! I knew he was good, but I didn't konw he was this good. That was an awesome solo, he probably pioneered quite a few modern metal techniques while not even playing metal.
