Among the US Navy's first jets were the FH Phantom and the F2H Banshee. Both built by McDonald Douglas Corporation.

The FH Phantom Was slow compared to the Banshee. It was only able to reach 479 mph at sea level. But what it lacked in speed it did make up for in agility. In combat tests held after World War II it was flown off against the Bell P-59 Airacomet, the Lockheed P-80 Shooting Star, and even the Gloster Meteor borrowed from the RAF. The tists showed in the dog fight that the Phantom had the edge in agility it could turn inside all the others. Where it lacked was in a strait chaise, Both the Meteor and Shooting star pulled away from the Phantom. But for a first shot it wasn't a bad sircraft.

The F2H Banshee gave up that agility for speed. Even at 10,000 ft the Banshee was able to reach 527 mph. Even when the plane was just setting on the ground it weighed 13,183 lbs compared to the the Phantom's empty weight of 6,683 lbs. Fully loaded the Banshee was nearly three times the weight of the Phantom. was the increase in speed worth it? Maybe not, but the warload increase was. and it could fly twice the distance of the Phantom at over 1,200 miles. Even with drop tanks the Phantom could only do about 1,000 miles.

So I ask your opinion, Was the Banshee a good follow on to the Phantom?

And now for my favorite navy jet. I love the Panther. just wish i could find one that didn't blow up every time you touch down on a carrier like the AH does. by some miracle i was able to get this one to do what I want.

Try the Fox Four site. The Panther there is an oldie but a goodie.

Yes Kazunori Ito made one for FS9 but forbade it's use or any of his work in this sim...tis a pity but...his creation his call. :monkies:
