an N3N for FSX

Now can I conclude that everybody is avoiding to discuss the N3N, or are most people interested in different topics than the N3N?

Well, as far as the OP's original subject is concerned there's not much to talk about yet. As i mentioned earlier i'm trying hard to get the model to convert to Max (not much luck still but not much time neither sofar). Once that's done the real work can begin. Until that time i, for one, am happy to discuss anything concerning dogs and/or MG TC-TD's... :biggrin-new:

And did anyone mention a "state of the art" Focke-Wulf FW.44 Stieglitz already?

Good one to add to the agenda, Huub. You did know that she's actually the German love baby of Mister B. Stearman and Miss Y. 'N3N' Peril ?

Fw44_1.jpg

Well, actually that's not true. It proves to be Frau Stieglitz who is the mother of both these fabelhafte tochters baby Yellow Peril and baby Kaydet.

Sorry about this infelicity. It must be the heath..

Ahhhhhh......the artist knew his stuff. It's in the small details.

MG sold the TA & TB roadsters before the war, the TC arriving after. The three variants are pretty much the same car, simply with mild developments incorporated. At a glance, a TA, TB, and TC will appear identical.

One quick way to discern pre-war from post-war is to check the number of trim strips on the running boards.

TA & TB had three per side, and TC had only two.

It's diddly little trivia.....but it appears that the artist above....got it.

I'll add one more bit for the car/avian enthusiasts.:

There is a folk legend that persists about a race between a Red Label Bentley and an MG that took place from the coast to Paris, once that city had been liberated.

An old friend, now long deceased, was a doctor attached to the RCAF. He'd have been the one you'd see at the end of the runway sitting in an ambulance with an orderly as the bombers departed and returned

His name was Dr.Jim Waddell, originally from Calgary, and I knew his as a life long MG'iste in Victoria, BC.

He claimed the race really happened, but sadly, while the folklore gives victory to the underdog & tiny MG, it was in fact, the Bentley muscle car that carried the day. Of course, he was in the MG, and it was all airforce people, and it was all just a big party.

Appologies for the diversion....MG's get me going.

Please now....back the N3N. (Yet another type of open air roadster.)

Actually the Stieglitz was designed by Kurt Tank who is better know as the designer of the Focke-Wulf FW190s and the Ta 152. The aircraft is named Stieglitz, after the beautiful bird we Dutch call Putter and the Brits call Gold Finch. Indeed both are really spectacular.

I don't know anything about a relation between Kurt Tank an American woman called Peril or Kaydet. But have you looked closely to the Polikarpov Po-2, you might understand that I suspect a relationship between Kurt Tank and a future Night Witch.

But now back to the N3N.............

Cheers,
Huub

You sure he ain't no alien, right ?.. ( Men in black.. :D )

Sure, but i'm hoping to bump up an already more than half finished rendition (was supposed to be a new Maam-Sim model) :

pr_n3n4g.jpg

(early WIP)
When I see these wip pics I can't help but wonder if there might be a beta test version laying around...
Also - knowing that Golden Age Simulations would do an excellent job on it I asked Paul at GAS directly if he / they would be interested in making an N3N and his reply was unequivocally "no"
They are putting an all out effort into their new Stearman package and he tells me that he would be disinterested in providing an N3N at this time, if ever...
I have to say, being involved in the Stearman beta testing that these Stearman planes (PT-17 and PT-13 plus the 450hp showbird) are going to be extremely well executed in all aspects!
I also would say that the MAAM sim development of the N3N is and has been the focus of my interest. I really want to see it in FSX someday.
This screen capture is making my heart palpitate btw

Stieglitz and Bucker Jungmeister would both be welcome additions to FSX...
Aerofly FS2 has a beautiful Jungmeister but that sim is currently borked by its latest updates - I have uninstalled it for now.

Nah, sorry, not even an alpha. No gauges, no flightmodel yet, you see. Gauges not that much of a problem of course, have them laying around here and there. Flightmodel might be a little trickier, naturally. Soundsuite's gonna be nothing but fun (and some hard work).

Or this: https://youtu.be/jm-y9o8nG0I

But first and foremost get the thing in 3dsMax. Still the first challenge atm.

I can wholehartedly understand. You're not putting your heart and soul into creating a Stearman Kaydet and then do it again for a N3N. You'd be getting thru the same motions, practically... ;-) MAAM has a beautiful N2S Kaydet in its collection (if you buy a ticket you can ride along) and we loved to get to work on it for FS of course but there was a fine Kaydet out already around that time so we decided to go for the N3N.

I believe you right away! I love what GAS is doing, i just about got all their models. Love 'em ! :encouragement:

I'm afraid P3Dv4 only, mate... ( nah, just kidding. I believe i have FSX still on one of my HD's somewhere.. ;-)

This screen capture is making my heart palpitate btw

I had to look that up (palpitate...) Sorry mate. :)

You can say that again about that Jungmeister !!

'Borked' another one i had to look up ( hallelujah for the internet !! ;-) , i see.... but don't understand. Why is Aerofly FS2 borked after the latest updates ??

I just recently got interested in Aerofly again because of the Update. Installed it again (got it from Steam) including the update and bought Orbx Innsbrück as well. My Oh My!!! If i wasn't missing the weather, AI, and ATC so much it would be my fav flightsim instantly ! Wow!! :encouragement:

But lets not get into that... This thread is already borked as it is... :teapot:

Cheers,
Jan

I didn't ment it that literally, Huub, more like an allegory if you will. I mean, just look at these planes. Btw, a 'putter' is really a vink, isn't it. In the Stieglitz case even a distelvink. But you didn't want your name caught up in this, didn't you. ;-)

But now back to the N3N.............

Alrighty then ! Here's a bunch of N3N vids for the enthusiast :

For me the last Aerofly updates created lag, and stuttering.
Ultimately I couldn’t even fly it, the spawn point was the middle of a lake without an airplane.
i uninstalled it and wiped all of the folders then reinstalled it and no joy.
to be quite honest it’s all eyecandy without substance. No AI No ATC No life at all.
Even the weather cant be fully utilized because of the impact on FPS.
For a day or two its fun to load a plane and fly with 60 FPS over sparse photoreal scenery
In a lifeless world...then its not. And its funny to note that as soon as they try to FSX it up a bit
the FPS go in the toilet and the stutters creep in. No dynamic water, no moving carrier, no nothing but a pretty airplane with pretty lighting, and (at altitude) a pretty landscape.

I missed this post...
no beta yet then - check (never hurts to inquire)

Those two vids are nice - Pratt 450 on the second aircraft but that first one looks like a Continental / Lycoming hybrid..?

I was disheartened by the reply from GAS regarding the N3N but not surprised at the reasoning either..Paul and Co always work very hard to produce
terrific replicas AND they do right by the community as well, which by itself is a big deal.

P3D only lol - nothing like a swift kick in the jimmies between pals - good one

carry on then

No sir, the other one.. ;-) 235HP Wright R-760-2. I modeled the P&W R-985 because that's what the MAAM Canary flies with (actually, like her virtual counterpart, she doesn't fly atm, needs overhaul) but i did the original Wright engine as well :

R7602.jpg

So we can fly with either the Wright or P&W engine. I hope to do a different set of wheels as well and the floatboat too of course.

Personally i look very much forward to the GAS Stearman while i do like the Vertigo rendition too but you can never have enough biplanes, can you. (i have always had the feeling a little bit that Vertigo was kind of 'on our six' (Maam-Sim i mean). When we had the TBM/TBF out for FS9 Vertigo released their TBM/TBF version for FSX. When we announced the N3N in the works it didn't take long for Vertigo to release their PT-17. And i guess it hasn't got unnoticed that Vertigo is (or was..) working on a B-25 for a long time already. IIRC they even had a C-47 on the menu once.... :semi-twins: )

Never thought it was a big deal but i did find it sort of remarkable. ;-)

P3D only lol - nothing like a swift kick in the jimmies between pals - good one

Well, actually there's a lot of truth in that because i do create my stuff initially for P3D. It's because i use the P3D SDK which is much more sophisticated than its FSX nephew. The good thing is that such a P3D-SDK developed model will work in FSX as well so no worries there. ;-)

Tutti agreed with everything, Heywooood. Orbx Innsbrück looks absolutely fabulous (just ask Eddi and Patsy) but it's indeed fun for half an hour or so, then you want to land and go home (P3Dv4 that is..). I do not have any performance issues myself with Aerofly but you must certainly be right when you say that, once the 'FSX it up' performance will pay the price.

Still, beautiful enough to keep a sharp eye on !

Aerofly 2 is still available to me and I'll reinstall it again soon probably. It IS pretty in the dusk and dawn lighting and that Jungmeister is a beauty.

Good news on the N3N options! I need to brush up on my radial engine identification acumen apparently...and a float equipped version would be most welcome. Love the details on your N3N power plant
