An other C-47 in the paintshop

In 1958 Martin Schröder founded his airline Martin's Air Charter (MAC), which is currently known under the name Martinair. Although he started with one de Havilland Dove these were several C-47s among the first aircraft of his fleet.

Martin Schröder lives in the same village as I do, therefore I thought I should do a MAC repaint. It is very early "work-in-progress".

As I'm currently refurbishing my house it, will take some time before the paint is dry!

Cheers,
Huub

Like I did with the KLM one, I will take an "old" one instead of the DDA version. However I should have chosen to paint this one, much easier..... :icon_lol:
The nose has given e head-aches and I'm still not fully satisfied.....

Cheers,
Huub

The main textures are finished, now I just need to adjust the alphas and made a spec map. The PH-MAG (US reg. 42-92648) served with Martin's Air Charter from 1965 until 1968 after which it became a movie star. It was sold to an aircraft maintenance company at Schiphol and used in the Dutch movie "Dakota". Where it was flown in the Caribbean by Kees Brusse. This aircraft was demolished in 1991 at Malta.

Huub

That is a beautiful paint scheme. It reminds me of the MAAM DDA C-47 for FS2000 years back...that plane was quite advanced for FS2K standards, I remember it had a pretty realistic radial engine startup sequence.

It is finished.... I will try to upload tomorrow. Hardly any weathering/dirt as all the picture I could find from the Martinair DC3/C47 aircraft showed very clean aeroplanes!

Cheers,
Huub

The repaint has been uploaded to the usual places. Next to the announced PH-MAG the set also contains a texture set for "Doornroosje" the C-47 PH-DDZ from the Dutch Dakota association which currently flies in historic Martinair colours.

Enjoy,
Huub

Very nice Huub ... but doesn't the original have the tail stripes the other way round???

Thanks Manfred, very well noticed, but there is something odd here and I can't find out where it goes wrong. Both the original and my repaint have 10 wide blue/red stripes and 9 narrow white stripes on the tail and it starts with red is on top. Halfway at the stiffener from the tail, the long stripe in my repaint is blue, while the original has a red stripe there.......

I noticed when I posted the pictures below in the Real vs FSX thread. However as long as I don't see them together it doesn't really disturb me.

Cheers,
Huub

Huub, I seriously wonder how this could occur? Perhaps an eye illusion with those parallel lines makes you miss-see? Or perhaps they are not exactly the right width?

Cheers,
Craig :)

Counting from the tail fillet up you have got nine stripes on the original vs. eight on the model.

Just observations.

The blue stripes are narrower than the red. Myself, I would start the layout of the stripes coming off of the aft fuse, then lay the rest out in proportion. I notice that the RW plane (stripes) have a bit more of an angle going to the rear of the tail than Huubs rendition. A thought. It may help to use the RW tail profile as a layout layer (template)

Nice work Huub. I always enjoy your repaints whenever I can. :)

Thanks for all your observations, but I think I found the cause! Mathias was right.

When you look at the picture posted by Ferry copied below you see that the lowest part of the rudder is white. I started at the bottom from the rudder which is around one stripe wide. I think this explains the difference.

Manfred both the real thing and my repaint have 5 red stripes and 5 blue stripes. Due to the angle of the picture and the screenshot you just do not see them all.

Oleboy, the red and blue stripes are exactly the same height (42 pixels).

As it is easy to fix I will make a correction (late) this evening when I have mu chill hour. Now I need to plaster a few walls first!

Cheers,
Huub

Count from the top down to the long stripe that includes the tail fillet (not the ones below). Stop when you reach 8 (mdl) and 9 (original). Same location, hence your stripes are something like 1/8 too broad.
