And now for something completely different

I've always noticed that the airfields in the game seem kind of sterile. In all my campaigns I've added activity with vehicles and aircraft to liven it up, but something has been missing - people!

I did this as an experiment using .bgl examples from Lindsey Watt and guides from Robert John and now I've got 21 USAAF mechanic and pilot figures / groups I can start adding to my campaign installs via Mission Builder. I think they turned out fairly well. They are just flat polys that turn to always face the players point of view, but since they are taken from period photos they look pretty real. I don't know if anyone will want them but I am going to post them in case anyone else can use them.

A much-need improvement. They look great.

Many Thanks, Kurt.

Adding them through the Mission Builder to our missions would be great too and it sounds possible, is it not?.

A new entry has been added to Add-Ons Library, category CFS 2 Scenery Add-Ons

Description: USAAF Personnel by Captain Kurt

This will give you 21 pilot and ground crew figures to add to your scenery. Place them around your airfields with the Mission Builder.

My thanks to Lindsey Watt and Robert John for their examples which I used to figure out how to make this.

Kurt,

Nice work! They even look like something out of a Python sketch! :salute: (You'll have to connect the dots on that one...)

Great!!!

Brilliant idea, Captain Kurt!!!

:applause: :applause: :applause: :applause: :applause:

Exactly what was missing from CFS2, I wonder how they would look as permanent GSL objects in airport sceneries. If I understood correctly these objects derive directly from Leroy10's tree technology and they should not impact framerate negatively.

May I suggest to do different nationalities as well? USAAF's personnel could be mixed with RAF's in British late-war situations. And think of Luftwaffe personnel or even Japanese....WOW!

Obviously, all of the above is not meant to put any demand or pressure on you, they are only suggestions.

Thank you!

Just got 'em CK. I concur with Kelti....Brilliant ....indeed! The possibilities are exciting. WW1 anyone. The Red Baron or Eddie Rickenbacker?

Well done.

Top stuff Capt'n. Many thanks indeed. What a difference they will make to 'stiff' scenery.

Regards,

Graham

Cool

This is a great idea - just was was missing. I simply love the sceneries in your campaigns with moving trucks, aircraft crossing over the field etc - thats what makes your campaigns real great, but still no PEOPLE - now it seems we can have at least some of them. THANK YOU.:jump:

:salute: I have already used Kurt's file in a mission I had made before ( it took a few mouseclicka only to add the airmen, etc)and I have peopled Midway with it. It looks great. Any existing mission can be modded this way, with the Mission Builder of course.

Thanks again.

Great work indeed CK!!!!
can you make also different Air Forces??
Many thanks again

Screenshots

Hi,

I attach some screenshots of Kurt's personnel I added to Midway airfield by use of the Mission Builder.'
I think they greatly improved my mission, and what is more, one can "destroy" them as goals in a mission, I believe.

That opens the way to making missions of the type "Kill the top brass in the base, when they are having a conference by the parked C-47"
or anything similar.

Thanks Kurt.

It would be nice to have some RAF and Fleet Air Arm personnel or deckhands for the carriers, pilots, tow-cars, a/c handlers etc, even a sailor or two walking the deck.

At the risk of sounding crazy, one could even think of officers' wives in tennis shorts playing tennis on the airfield somewhere, camels for the desert, Bedouin Arabs, British tankers brewing tea by a tank on the desert sands, Italians, prisoners of all types, the Long Range Desert group guys, Hurricane IId pilots in shorts, admirals, sailors, other animals like foxes and dogs and cows and sheep and goats, Rommel, Montgomery, British and Indian troops around Tobruk, tanks, etc etc... The field is endless here.

It is true to say that Kurt has opened the door to an enormous enrichment potential of the sim, giving it new life again.

Thanks again Kurt,

Nick

Well! The response is pretty overwhelming, I didn't expect that many guys would be interested in this. Thanks for the kind comments.

Maybe nude sunbathing nurses too huh? Actually I can do a lot of different forces if I can find suitable photos to work from as that is the trick to making them look realistic. I've been collecting different WWII air forces photos for some time and I have hundreds. I have good selections for the RAF both European and desert, the Fleet Air Arm, the USN, the USMC, and even the Italians. Surprisingly there aren't a lot of good color photos for the Luftwaffe and zero for the Japanese. The German photos are generally poor quality or are taken from the Signal armed forces magazine and are pixilated. I might be able to put enough together but I'd need to Photoshop a number of them first.

I hadn't thought about ground troops but I would bet I could find US, Brit and German soldiers to work with.

Having said that, if anyone has Luftwaffe color photos or by a miracle some Japanese that have ground crew in them please post them or PM me and I'll give you an email addy to send them to me.

BTW, Ti Loup has some great GMAX carrier deck crew figures already and they are adjusted to be at deck height. If you don't already have them you can get them here at SOH.

Captai Kurt,

I may have what you are looking for, I will look. PM follows with my email address.

I found uniforms and clotheswear and headgear images (color plates) on the following --only to begin with:

WWII JAP SOLDIERS UNFORMS
RAF UNIFORMS WWII
BRITISH BATTLEDRESS 1937-1961
THE WAFFEN SS
SOVIET ARMY
ROMMEL'S DESERT ARMY
THE GURKHA RIFLES ARMY
THE ROYAL NAVY
WERMACHT FOREIGN VOLUNTEERS
MONTOGMERY'S ARMY IN THE DESERT

and many more.

So hurry up and send me your email and I can send. Name your priorities from the above.
