Animals?

Awhile back I downloaded and installed some "animal" bgl files. The files are suppoesd to place various wildlife all around the planet in FS9....I have yet to see one of them. Did anyone else install these files? If you did, have you actually seen any animals? mid

Yeh, I guess I could Tom...but then I would cheat someone out of the great honor of posting pics of the furry ;little buggers to prove that they do indeed exist, lol. Seriously, tho, I should probably do that...decompile!!!

So, just what do I use to decompile bgl's?

Funny you should mention animals in FS9. The other night, I was flying a helo just above the tree tops through some of Washington State's beautiful mountains....and I saw Bigfoot. As I flew by, he flipped me off! Can you believe the audacity!

Probably not personal, only the noise of your chopper. I feel that way about the motorcycles at our intersection who feel they have to rev them several times evidently to get them going VERY LOUDLY.

I used to be stationed in Hawaii, working for the gov. One of our jobs was to look for squatters on government property on Oahu, along with the other islands. The Marines in their CH-53s at Kaneohe Bay were always willing to take riders along as long as they didn't have to deviate from their flight plan, or cut into their training. Our requests helped them sharpen their flying skills. We located one squatter living in a thatched hut on gov land above Pearl Harbor. The pilot brought the -53 into low and slow flight at about 50 feet above the hut - the palms were waving violently and a lot of brush was flying around. Our squatter came out of his hut, looked up and braced himself against the downwash, then flipped us off! My compatriot in the cargo compartment had a videocam - I asked him if he got this on tape, they'd never believe it back at the office. The guy ducked back into his hut, and we got out of there fast as we couldn't be too sure his next appearance wouldn't be with shotgun in hand.

Where might one find this animal BGL package? Would be interesting to have some critters to look for as I fly/crash my way throughout the world. And it would give me an excuse for crashing....."I was flying along minding my own business, when suddenly a deer jumped in front of me. I hit the brakes and swerved and my plane slid into a tree."

It sounds like your referring to animal object bgl files which you have to place individually. If this is what your after there are some at Flightsim.

Obio, if ya can't find them let me know and I'll email them to ya. mid

Do a search for this gent.

Animals of the World
FS 2004 (FS9)
SOME WORDS ABOUT
Of the many thousand gmax-things I have made through years the global animal scenery is one of my dearest. This library contains more than 3000 BGL-files. It puts singles or groups of animals into your Flight Simulator 2004 as static scenery. Marine animals and terrestrial animals. Mammals, reptiles and birds - more than a hundred species. By land by water and by air in places where they occur in reality world. The screenshots offers you a few examples.
These creatures are mostly (but not always) big animals fit to be recognized at a appropriate distance from an airborne plane / helicopter. No need for texture here, thus I recommend you go: SETTINGS / DISPLAY / HARDWARE and uncheck "Render to texture". Ordinary addon sceneries with textures do not want "Render to texture" activated.
INSTALLING
You may install my Animals of the World partly as one or more addon sceneries - quite usual procedure. Or, with good hardware capacity, you might wish having the whole thing installed putting every part into your FS9 library. Be my guest!
First do a back up of this scenery! Copy all the animal scenery folders into your FS9 / ADDON SCENERY folder. Then launch FS and go SETTINGS / SCENERY LIBRARY / ADD AREA and make the path to the folder you actually want installed. Push OK. Same procedure for every single part of this library you wish installed. When finished just restart your FS and go.
HOW TO USE
Even though "animal of the world" appears to you being very large the true world prove to be even more huge, scaling down all possible global addon sceneries you could imagine. And my intention to do global sceneries is just the feeling of the animals being present somewhere all over the planet. Knowing about the chance of some unexpected encounters at my low passing by for perhaps any other purposes.
Or you could outreach informations on the Net or elsewhere about certain species which might have your interest. Their distribution and habitats with more. Have a slow low flight along chosen patterns looking for certain species and for general sight seeing of course! Enjoy your flight and don't be annoyed about what you do not see. That's the hunters fate to live in harmony with a great patience, waiting for his lucky day.
FEED BACK
Feel most welcome with all sorts comments on id.piano@mail.dk. However, don't expect me to make further additions, alternations or corrections. I have stopped developing sceneries and intend to save my scanty FS-leisure enjoying mere flights. Let's look forward to see future simulation sceneries offering dynamic and even more authentic animals.
DISCLAIMER
These animal files are for free but used at your own risk. I have tested all on my own system and it works fine. However, there is no warranty or guarantee against any kind of problems arising from the use of these simple files or other files from my hand. This includes any hardware / software problems.
These files must not be the object of commercial trading any kind. But most welcome to pass on to third party for free if along with this read-page! Do never set up any announcement concerned without the legal notice of my name and authorship.
Thank you and many happy flights!

How does one work the decompiler? The instructions are not for dummies like me. By the way...Thanks, Tom for the decompiler gadget..I didn't even see it when you first posted. I guess I'm going blind as well as senile.

SUCCESS! I have found my first beastie...'tis a bear in the woods, I don't know what he's doing but apparently he is life size therefore very tiny in the flightsim world. In the lower left of the posted pic is the bear. I mannaged to decompile one of the bgl's in Yosemite Natl Park and flew a cub from Johnston Field. It's a neat area I've never investigated before of yosemite. Anyway, if the bear is this hard to spot, imagine the snakes and birds.....They must be teensy!(a word I borrowed from my wife....'tis not a very mighty, manly wordLOL. I'm in a goofy mood today hunting for bears in the woods and we all know what they do there!View attachment 51194

You've discovered that BGLAnalyze is command-line driven? If you want something with a GUI (or command-line), look for BGL2XML by Jon Masterson at Avsim.

Yeh, I discovered that but quickly realized I would need something more friendly..I have no idea how to do stuff in dos....I got the right tool and have started making a list of places where I can find the little guys.
For instance , if one were to go to the following co-ords, one could find a California Tortoise

1Latitude N34:00:15.52 to N34:00:15.65,
Longitude W118:22:17.40 to W118:22:17.40
Latitude Band N34:00:03.92 to N34:00:20.51: 1 objects

Big fun, hey?

Man..must be goin nuts suggesting a thing like mailing embers......could go to jail for such a thing. Don't tell!
I meant Members, I think...it's hard to say these days as the brain shrinks and the mind withers.

These animals are hard to find even with the coords...I fould a snake in the grand canyon and am sorry to say it looks a bit out of proportion.....but the search continues...mayhaps I'll try elephants next...I spent a couple of hours looking for a Panda in China and all I can say is the guy who made these bgl's must be a sadist....some are extremely hard to get to...
here's a shot of the snake...I rode up to it on my trusty steed only to find I could have landed there in a Cub.
I make it hard on myself and do this with real weather and sometimes it's so windy it's hard to move a small plane around..like yeterday when I was trying to find a Mountain Lion in Yosemite with 45mph winds in a Piper Cub...big fun!!!View attachment 51263
