Animals?

You don't have to use the command line method to use the decompiler I mentioned. Just drag the bgl over the top of the decompiler (or a shortcut to it) and it will do it's job. The output file(s) will be in the same directory as the source bgl, so I usually make a copy and work in the same folder as the decompiler.

Glad you found 'em Mid!

But seriously, I seem to remember huge herds of African wild animals: lions, zebras, wildebeste, etc. in flightsim (years ago). Can't find them anywhere now. Is that what you're referring to?

Ralf, earlier in this thread there is a post about where to find these bgl files. It has nothing to do with animals of old. These files are available at Simviation/.Do a search for Ivar Danielsen and/or "Animals of the World."View attachment 51417View attachment 51418View attachment 51419
That being said I have a couple more shots. I'd really like to know why one can't see the beasties from certain angles. I've ;looked pretty hard for a couple of them to no avail and I think that the gent who made the files up possibly did them with a stock version of FS9 w/ no mesh. Anyway, in my flights searching for these things all over the world, I'm amzed at just how incredible of a sim FS9 really is. I've been flying low and slow in places I don't ordinarily go to and am amazed at this sim all over again.
Here's a few more shots.

To be more specific, the files are found on pages 1,2,3 and 4 at Simviation in the FS9 Scenery section.

By the way...can someone explain to me waht this statement means? It is in the readme with the zips.
"These creatures are mostly (but not always) big animals fit to be recognized at a appropriate distance from an airborne plane / helicopter. No need for texture here, thus I recommend you go: SETTINGS / DISPLAY / HARDWARE and uncheck "Render to texture". Ordinary addon sceneries with textures do not want "Render to texture" activated."

What ill effects will the sim have from having that box unchecked?

Thanks, found 'em! 'Render to texture' is a mystery. I've tried to install some of these creatures, but not spotted anything yet.

Is it best to create a new Addon Scenery/Animals Africa/Scenery file and put them in there, or should they just go into Addon Scenery/Scenery?

Also, how low down should they be placed in the Settings sequence? Any suggestions as to best way of installing our furred & feathered friends?

I put them in the regular scenry and add them via the add scenery function..it probably doen;t matter. They are hard to find even after one has the coords. Seems they disappear if viewed from the wrong angle

I found this here horse and cart piloted by a guy with what appears to be a sensible fur hat, considering the terrain. I don't know what the guy is doing out in the middle of nowhere but I guess he had to go somewhere.

Ralf, I tried unchecking the render to texture box and my sim went CTD....I was looking for a bear in Alaska and was flying circles around the exact co-ord and still couldn't see him. Maybe he was hibernating or the guy who made these files just wants to have a laff at our expense. midView attachment 51610View attachment 51609
