I only discovered it this week as his obituary was published in the Eastern Daily Press as he was later a local deputy headteacher:

Remarkable man, that Channel dash was one of the unique events of the war and much bravery on both sides. Btw those were German Battlecruisers not Battleships, another sign of the tides of history sweeping the past into the past.
