Some time ago I got into Thomas Ruth's An-225 and generated some 4096 high-res paintkits for both the 225 and the 124, and at that time had created a 2D cockpit panel from a screencap of the VC.
That was my common go-to way of doing them, but they were really dependent on how detailed the VC was itself.
These days I go hunting for photos of the real animal instead.
This one's close-ish to finished....and yes, the fans work...
