Ant's Swamp Wallaby (freeware in development)

Oh, after seeing the last shots, I realize the plane is actually much bigger than what I expected !
I was hoping for a kind of MicroJet.
But it look nice I have to say.

By the way, in the front view, that engine intake makes me think about that spaceship from the old videogame Inferno ! :jump:

Here's some new screenshots. Lately I have been working on the EFIS display which isn't very exciting (and I got really bored when I started the GPS map) but there are a few other tweaks and additions to the model.

Here's the lights with a nice little glow around the landing light. (note that the red lights under the wing are part of the runway scenery and not the plane)

A nice Lotus style landing light. Which is pretty hard to do using FSDS. You need to use bones to make these sorts of landing lights and FSDS doesn't do bones so I had to hand write the .x file information for the landing light. Not a job for the faint hearted! I tried putting on some paint but it didn't work out to well.

I didn't like the old push buttons I had as they weren't lighting up as well as I would have liked so I spent a couple of hours replacing them with new ones.

A look at the EFIS display. Need to add the bugs for this though (I mean the heading, altitude and airspeed bugs).

BTW the size of the plane is 27.67' long with a wingspan of 24.24'

Following this one intently. Looks dog-gone awesome so far!

This is one I'd like to do some skins for!

Looking good,
Joseph

Maybe I should have made simple gauges instead of a glass cockpit. Then I wouldn't have needed to code a new GPS.

Anyway, nearly finished the gauge programming and put a nice pilot in so here's some more pics.

Here's the landing gear half way open (or shut). I've never made retracting landing gear before and it was a bit tricky getting the gear to fit.

Red goes faster doesn't it?

Another paint. Blondes have more fun.

Here's the three screens up and running.

Here is a link to version 0.5 of the Wallaby for anyone interested:

www.antsairplanes.com/downloads/AntsSwampWallabyV050.exe

It is 15.5MB in size but you need 105MB in HDD space.

Most everything works. Sounds are mostly from the default learjet though.

Flight dynamics can always do with more tweaking.

Not much information on aircraft performance though. One would need to do some test flying to find out what is what.

There is a paintkit included. If anyone comes up with a lovely paint and would like me to include it in the end version then let me know.

Just putting it out there to get some bug checking/feedback.

Please do not redistribute to other file libraries just yet. Better to do that when the final version is released.

This is an excellent concept plane! I did a full IFR flight to precision minimums and it flies great. The glass is easy on frames.

Wow and freeware thanks Anthony!

Y'all done gone and done it agin, Anthony:guinness: She is a real looker (as is the plane too). Been bouuncing around Tazmanian skies for the past couple hours with no problems. Only thing I've had problems with is fiddling with the A/P knob controls -- and that may well just be my lack of digital dexterity:icon_lol:

I couldn't resist a couple of visual mods for those that like that kind of thing

In the Aircraft.cfg:

[LIGHTS]
//Types: 1=beacon, 2=strobe, 3=navigation, 4=cockpit, 5=landing
light.1 = 1, -5.42, 0.00, 1.96, fx_shockwave_beaconb_nl, //Ants_aa12_beacon
light.2 = 2, -7.4, -11.6, -0.18, fx_shockwave_strobe_nl
light.3 = 2, -7.4, 11.6, -0.18, fx_shockwave_strobe_3_nl
light.4 = 10, 3.62, 0.00, 1.31, Ants_aa12_vclight
light.5 = 7, -13.5, 0.00, 0.00, Ants_aa12_engineexhaust // recognition light used
to control engine start effect
light.6 = 5, 6.00, 0.00, -1.70, fx_shockwave_landing_light_small_xenon

[SMOKESYSTEM] //Pick the one for the occasion to jazz up your flight

smoke.0=-14.00, 0.0, 0.0, fx_smoke_f6 //General Exhaust
//smoke.1=-14.00, 0.0, 0.0, Ants_aa12_Smoke //white Trail
//smoke.2=-14.00, 0.0, 0.0, fx_smoke_r //Red trail
//smoke.3=-14.00, 0.0, 0.0, fx_smoke_b //Blue Trail

Now the only bird in your shop still missing from my ranch is the Drifter, a condition I'll remedy soon.:cowboy:

I'm generally not a fan of fictitious planes or glass cockpits. But this has completely won me over!
It's a joy to look at and to fly. The interior textures are high-end payware quality. I love just sitting there clicking the buttons! The displays are easy to read and intuitive to use. The only thing I did was to increase the elevator trim effectiveness (may be just my particular set-up). My only thought about the exterior was that I could see those airbrakes being ripped off in the airflow but, who knows, there's probably some very clever design to them that allows them to be that way round.
Congratulations. I can't wait for the final version.
Dave
