Any new developments that open up more of the CFS2 code?

Thought there may be some new breakthru I am not aware.

Anyway, just thought I'd ask.

:wavey:

I wish someone would at least try.We have debated it before but members in the past didn`t want MS comming after them. The thing that they don`t realise is that the 1st scenery change made the 1st aircraft added as well as making the stock Ai aircraft flyable broke the lic. agreemant.MS did the samething when they stoped supporting CFS2.The way I see it is CFS2 is an open sim to a point and that point is when MS comes in and ask us not to do something, then I feal we should do as they ask just as we did many years ago.:typing:

I don't see a problem if the code is hacked.

Especially, if the end results are not sold.

It is hard to damage someone, and prove damages when there is nothing to quantify damages.

The IL2 code is leaked and the mods are pouring out changes to the IL2 series.

There is even a mod for AI improvement.

The mod devs are into that code making a new sim out of it.

Oleg is very aware of it, but he's busy with the new SOW and doesn't indicate he cares.

Effectively, he can't come out and make an issue out of it or he has to do something about it.

So... methinks alot of things could probably be tried.

Heck, face up to it, has MSFT ever actually responded to anything you have ever asked them about CFS2?

When I started with CFS2, back when it first released I tried all kinds of communication and never got through to anyone.

There were some responses to things on Netwings.org from MSFT CFS3 guys (in disquise of course).

Some posters knew who they were and let us know.

I've tagged along on the A2A boards (BOB II WOV). Buddye and other members have been improving AI performance.

The AI performance in BOB II WOV is darned awesome, but it has taken over two years and a lot of response from beta testers and users.

Improving AI is more of a try and test as you go thing.

Anyway, I think if the code was hacked keep it shut and just do what you can with it.

I doubt anyone with MSFT is going to ever download ZIP from this site and play a 10+ year old game, do you?

I've never read on the AAA site where anyone declares anything about having the code.

The mod devs just do their thing and keep shut.

The CFS2 is a great old sim, very feature rich.

What does it need... anyone of us could make a quick list and all the lists would probably agree in large part.

I only posted this, because I recall how tough it was before GSL (was found out) on my old system.

It would be nice to have someone to try and open CFS2 up. The only files we have not opened are the dll files. When CFS2 1st came out someone talked with the head of Aces the maker of CFS2. He stated that they had tried to program some very interesting things into CFS2 but due to the limited amount of time they were unable to complete what they started. When The B24Guy opened up the MDL for the TBD he found that there was a section that had not been completed which allowed the wings to fold. Now this was an AI aircraft only not a player aircraft or was it.I personally think that Aces had ment for all the stock aircraft in CFS2 to be player usable aircraft. No one has really taken the time to explore the dll files and someothers to find out what is in them. who knows it may just take a few lines of coding to open them up and a increase in use for CFS2 is born.:typing:

PS Don`t let the tec. get in the way of trying to find out if there are ways of improving CFS2.

They are having a field day with the Il2 MODS. Sure would be good, if something could be done further with CFS2. I can't believe if, Il2 coding written in Java can be tapped why CFS2 in C++ can't be tapped.

The Rowan's BOB is written in C+ as I recall, and the 3rd party guys have made it into a much better sim. No ONLINE play of course, and all you get is air combat.. still the AI performance is STELLAR.

There are limits to what can be done with Il2, but no way the IL2 mission builder compares to the CFS2. The number of addons, maps, etc really make this a dog that could hunt with alittle tweaking.

First we probably need someone that knows the tools to dissect the executable and dlls. Then it will probably take a coder with some cyber skills to find the keys in the code open up the code.

Once the code is open there are plenty of intersted people that can start working with it.

MSFT is going to be just about as diligent as Oleg is about preventing the hacking of the source. The game is a done deal for them both. Pursuing people for copyright enfringements that don't make money for their work is pretty well a lame issue.

Look at Youtube for a good example. There are thousands of copyright infringements daily.

If you were to take this posting and copy it verbatim you would be in violation of copyright laws.

Heck, we can't even keep thousand of Illegal Immigrants from crossing our borders daily. Does anyone think there is any possible way a 10 year old game could be protected.

Garth Brooks tried stopping the resale of music, along with others. It's a hoot, intellectual property is practically impossible to protect. The caveat is damages can be applied and damages attract lawyers... if someone is making money off the copyright violations.

Most people don't know this, but you don't have to register a copyright for anything you write to be copyright. Every original writing can effectively be qualified for copyright.

Yes this one has been debated before.

...there are portions of the code used that are still an active part of the current generation of MS Flight Simulators.

Microsoft is still a standing company and even if they have discontinued a product the EULA for that product is still in effect unless MS themselves change it.

Okay...there are some comments that have brought this track down a path I'd rather not embark on. Let's end it now, thanks. :typing:
