And for all of those owners and pilots who are loyal to the N3N, the worst thing you could do is call it a Stearman (for which it shares nothing in common, except for they're both round-engine bi-planes). ; )
I'm not aware of any recent updates, but I have been under the impression that it is the very next project that will be completed/released through MAAM-sim. From the developer's standpoint at MAAM-sim, it is all volunteer work, as all of the proceeds from the sales go directly to the museum. I humbly ask all for forgiveness in my lack of knowledge . Lloyd Stearman is probably rolling over in his grave right now . The N3N was manufactured by the Naval Aircraft Factory . I was fortunate to have a ride in a Stearman N2S five years ago and it is something I'll never forget . I would love to ride in MAAM's N3N "Yellow Pearl" and next year I hope to make a trip to the WWll weekend in Reading . I've always wanted to go .

To me, as much as I like the N3N, it has always looked like an "old man's" plane, in comparison to the Stearman, which even looks to have more "spring in its step", through their contrasting lines. : )
Despite this, I think it is the rarity, and lack of common knowledge about the N3N, that leads me to having as much interest in it as I do.

Old mans plane. HA! Whatever it be considered, I'm in. I've always admired the detail brought forth in the making of this recipe of a bi-plane. And the radial was the first thing that caught my attention (to detail). I'm really looking forward to the unveiling of the N3N. I was sold months ago!

Yep, a big fat Turkey pushed the little yellow tweety bird aside and it wasn't even Christmas..
It just so happend that our good friend Rob Cappers, of DC-2 fame, offered to convert our FS9 Turkey model to native FSX. Around the same time i stumbled over a post here from RobH asking for info about stencils and other details regarding the Grumman Avenger. He was working on high resolution textures to use for an FSX portover of our FS9 Avenger model.... I then asked him how he would feel about leaving that portover for what it was and put his new high res textures on a native FSX Turkey instead... The rest is history. Well, to us anyway...
So it's now deffinately our TBF/TBM Avenger that is going to be our first native FSX product.Just about the whole team is now working on our FSX Turkey that's why the N3N is temporarily parked in the corner of our virtual Maam-Sim hangar. The FSX Turkey will feature all the goodies that FSX makes possible including 3D gauges and as much systems simulation as we can manage to put in. We're also adding much more details which weren't possible with the FS9 version.
The first edition of our native FSX Avenger series will comprise in full detail the TBF-1 and TBF-1C versions plus MAAM's own TBM-3E. That will then be followed by more TBM-3 and derivatives like the TBM-3S and 3W plus TBM-3R (COD). Various fire fighting and tow versions are also in the planning. In between we will try and finish up the N3N and release that too.
Now that it's all in the open ( that's actually an exclusive here at SOH... ) here's a couple more WIP shots of the TBF-1C :

Back on topic, while we had to put the N3N on the backburner temporarely we can't wait to get back to work on our beloved little Yellow Peril. In ending here are a few WIP screenies of the last work i did on it.

Absolutely wonderful, Jan!! It is so great to see the MAAM Avenger getting the FSX-treatment, even though the port-over has remained my FSX Avenger of choice (with such accurate sounds and flight dynamics, besides such already accurate visuals). The added work and new details, really make it shine even more so, just by these screenshots! And the N3N is just downright stunning, and I am really admiring your attention to detail on the engine, flying wires, fabric/structure details, and over all amount of fine details incorporated. Working on the PT-22, I know it is fun with these types of planes, to have so many little details around the exterior to reproduce and have stand-out, that higher-performance, and more modern-design aircraft are devoid of. If it was almost any other aircraft-hobby related market/industry/what have you, you could make money from selling just the engine model off of the N3N, alone! : )
BTW, the screenshot of the Avenger over water, and the last screenshot of the N3N...just spectacular! And as always, excellent (and of course very accurate - knowing you!) work on the pilots. ; )
