I tried this, and if I remember correctly, I also tried the other method by NVidia with the special glasses masking eyes in sync.
In both method, you do get a sensation of 3D. However, it's limited to the screen so it's not efficient to get any sensation of immersion or distance. Also, it makes the colors awful.
I never used them again.
For 3D and immersion, VR headsets are the way to go. But the current generation has insufficient screen resolution, so I'll have to wait for the next gen, or at least the next products coming to the market.
