When I was growing up, you had the coolest pencil in class...even moreso if you had the blue & whito Jay's Potato Chip pencil...(Chicagoans will know what I'm talking about here..)...

So not from Chicago so I have no clue what yer talking about.

My daughter on the other hand, when she was younger at least, always had to have something other than an standard eraser for her pencils. I must have spent a fortune on them.

Question: Before Jay's potato chips were called 'Jay's',...what was the name of the company beforehand and why was the name changed???
Remember,...no fair doin' a Google or Wikipedia search. Ya' know it or ya' don't.
 
Growing up in Denver, Mom only bought Hod Sander's "Clover Club" chips. I miss the barbecue flavored ones. That and a bottle of the original style "Orange Crush" in a chilled glass bottle, I was in kid heaven. :engel016:

Don't know Brad - I always knew 'em as "Jay's".....:kilroy:
 
Panther,...before WWII,...the company was known as 'Japps' potato chip company. After December 7th, 1941....the name was changed to Jays.
You can still buy Jays snacks,...however, they're not made in Chicago anymore. I think in Indiana. Too bad.
As a kid,...I always thought they were the best tasting chip around. Still do.

We had a blue one just like the red one you posted. I may still have it in a box somewhere...

Cool collectables Panther, tho I've never seen them before. :applause: Up in Northern NY we had the Frito Bandito on tv commercials, but never saw those being offered anywhere.
 
Lets not close the thread because of the Frito Bandito LOL. I am Hispanic and I take no offense...

Besides... I like Fritos. :icon_lol:
 
one of my earlier happy memories is sitting on the radiator in the tv room, around mid-afternoon in the winter, watching wgn channel 9 --QT Hush cartoon-- with a Whole Tin of Jay's in my greasy little hands. I was mebbe 4, so 1960 in Evanston.

Mom found me in there, took away the can but left the TV on.
Never have desserts moved my soul as Chips did then!

I always thought LAYS was a funny name for a potato chip ... Especially with the motto ... "You can't eat just one ...!"

Yes I know ya'll are talking about JAYS ... I'm just saying, not having been subjected to the Chicago area, we always had LAYS chips as a kid. In fact you can still find em ...

Betchya can't eat just one! :icon_lol:
