Anyone port over the Tu-142 to FSX?

SOH-CM-2025
Anyone port over the Tu-142 to FSX? I'm getting the typical missing / obsolete gauge error messages on some of the older gauges for the 2D panel. Any help would be appreciated.

The exterior model is nice....I just created a quick and dirty alternate prop texture as the prop animation of the original prop textures (the first screen capture) is a too busy / jittery for my taste; you can't see it in these static screen captures. My alternate prop texture is a lot lighter than the original and is just a plain grey disk with the yellow tips, but it looks pretty good in "fly-by" view. The downside is that there is no obvious prop animation with my texture, but it's a compromise that I can live with. Note that my texture still does not solve the clouds in front of the prop issue.....

Hi tommy, good to find you, season's greetings to you and yourn, all you love
yes, it is in FSX, today schedule is terrible, too busy for my own good or yours, will check later, seems that a very different aircraft has a panel ----quite extensive ---- that is useful, anyway, it may do good, OR MAY NOT.

Are you using the Samdim aircraft? I'm not up to date on the TU-142 but last I knew it was the only one.

Sorry if I'm on a wild goose hunt, gotta fly to get todays stuff done on time.

......Are you using the Samdim aircraft? I'm not up to date on the TU-142 but last I knew it was the only one.......

Yes, it is the Samdin aircraft.

I'm going to revisit the prop textures as I think I can work out a better solution than my quick and dirty solution as shown above.

Tommy

Have you looked at the FSX version of the Samdim Tu-114 that is on Simviation and other sites. The prop texture should be fine with the Tu-142?

I think I already tried that. It might end up just being an issue with my computer hardware and or version of FSX; I'm running FSX Acceleration. The prop texture is just to dark compared to the FS2004 screenshots on their website.

Tommy

OK.....

This alternate prop texture has only been tested in FSX Acceleration.

I revised the prop texture to something I REALLY like; it came out much better than I expected. I'll upload it to AVSIM this week and post the link here. The texture is pretty dynamic as what you see depends on how the light is hitting the prop. The screen captures below were taken at the same time of the day from different angles. I tried to mimic the real life photos that I found on the internet. What you don't see in the screen capture is the prop animation with really brings it to life. Note that this alternate prop texture still does not solve the FSX clouds in front of the prop issue.....

Hello Tommy!

I'm impressed by what you've done on this. Looking forward to when you finalize the prop texture and whatever fixes!

Love the Russian big prop liners and military aircraft ....

Thanks DL....

Might only be the prop texture for the time being as I don't have a clue as to what the missing gauges are suppose to look like, so I really can't move forward on the panel. For the time being I just aliased the default FSX Boeing B-747 2D panel; I really like it as I know where all the switches are.....

If I can find the time, I'd like to do a fictitious "what if" repaint on this bird. I think it will look pretty cool.

Alternate 2D Panel for the Tu-142.....

I'm currently aliasing the panel from Samdim's FSX Tu-114 (you must already have that aircraft installed) via the following change to the panel.cfg in the Tu-142's Panel.95 folder. You have to delete all the text within the file and replace it with the following two lines.

[fltsim]
alias=Tupolev Tu-114\panel

This loads up without any error messages, but I still haven't fully tested all the switches on this panel. When I first switch over to the cockpit view, I need to press "a" at least once to cycle to the 2D panel and then wait a while for the 2D panel to show up. The initial loading of the 2D panel is a bit slow; I'm sure there is a way to correct this by editing the Tu-114's panel config file to take out the VC items, but I'll look into that later. At least I have a 2D panel that looks Russian.....:p:

Backup your original panel.cfg file before making the revision as noted above.

REPAINT, TEXTURES ONLY (I've only tested these textures in FSX Acceleration)

Just uploaded to Avsim FSX Library, so it may be a while until Avsim posts it depending on their holiday schedule.

Tupolev_Tu-142M_FSX_V1.0.zip

The revised prop textures as shown above are part of this package.

The premise of this fictitious repaint is the modernization of the Tu-142M to extend its life and retirement to the year 2030. What would Tupolev do to accomplish this? The exterior repaint that I have presented is intended to capture the look and feel of a test bed aircraft using modern metals, coatings, composite panels, etc. I used a lot, and I mean a lot of artistic license on this one. It would be nice to be able to add a more modern 2D "glass" panel to this aircraft's cockpit, but this is beyond my skill set. I would think that would be one of Tupolev's upgrades to this aircraft.

REPAINT, TEXTURES ONLY (I've only tested these textures in FSX Acceleration)

I've just uploaded Version 1.1 to Avsim; should be available for downloading within a day....

tupolev_tu-142m_fsx_v1.1.zip

Version 1.1 includes the following:

1. Updated engine textures for Version 1.0 to correct some errant texture artifacts on the engine cowls that I didn't catch on the initial release.

2. A second prototype repaint. Essentially I just added some red color to the trim tabs and hidden flap surfaces; it's just a little more prototype bling / eye-candy. It looks cool when I'm doing touch-and-go's when the flaps extend / retract. I use FSXpilot, an autopilot program, for this purpose.

3. A "work-in-progress" engine smoke effect files / settings; I was trying to create a very light exhaust haze, and not a hit you over the head engine smoke effect. The smoke effects that you see in some of the screenshots below are in fact the darkest of the three (3) smoke effects files that I have included in this update. I prefer the lightest of the three, but you won't see it 95% of the time; it only shows up under certain lighting conditions / angles of view. That is what I was really trying to achieve, as these engines seem to be pretty clean burning when compared to the jet engines of the same era.

Tommy ....seems we have similar tastes in aircraft choices......
While hunting for Tu-95...142...126....114 'stuff' I happened across this thread and your repaint....
The Samdim ver of the 114 wasn't half bad...so I got 'creative'...bigger images...sharper detail...props that aren't too disastrous in Accel.... and again with the metal finish....
A 'what if' the VH-ECA wasn't an Electra but was a Tu-114 ....similar critter....just bigger.....;)

2048 for the 'fuse' file.
