Anyone Tried this Pitts?

First impression: Nice exterior and VC. Sound pack is AWFUL. Flies well. Terrible soundpack. Has good documentation. Horrible sound. Did I mention the really poor soundpack?

....Any recommendations that you might have Tommy are very welcome...I can't fly it it makes my ears bleed lol

It seems they have a problem responding to purchases.

I made a purchase over 2 hours ago, and still no registration key. I did send an e-mail, and still no response.

They should at least posting something on their website as to how long one can expect to receive registration.

Anyone have issues getting this plane to completely stop? When parked on the ramp with the engine at idle, and prop feathered, mine still seems to creep forward. It will run away if the prop isn't feathered and the parking brake is taken off.....maybe this is normal to the real bird?

Yup mine does creep, too...parking brake required.

I'm keen to hear if anyone has mastered knife-edge flying, so far has eluded me.:gameoff:

Personally, I have found that pretty much ALL flying in this pitts requires practice. Taxiing, taking off, flying straight-and-level, and geez....don't attempt to be 'coordinated' when turning! It has me frustrated.

Okay, my turn to report.

IN a nutshell, its a great plane but did need a few tweaks to suit my taste. :jump:

I placed my order at 3:37 PM Pacific Time, not realizing the time zone difference. My registration came at 10:09 pm. David apologized for the time zone difference and lack of an automated response. Although I installed the product at 5:00 am this morning, my first flight wasn't until an hour ago.

My first reaction was "where's the pilot." :salute: LOL. Always good to read the manual. Once airborne with full realism, here are my notes:

* No FPS hits on my old machine.
* The exterior modeling is great. I did tweak the parking radius from 4 to 6.
* The 2D cockpit is well done. I did resize both the radio and GPS.
* The VC cockpit is fantastic, which is one of the reasons why I decided to take the plunge. The details are great and everything works quite well.
* Yes the sounds leave something to be desired. I found a freeware FS 2002 Pitts Special with a soundset by Aaron Spindle, so I swapped out the sounds. More enjoyable now.
* Handling and flight dynamics are great. I did adjust the tailwheel rotation to reduce the wallowing down the runweay. Its a joystick thing.
* Yes, I noticed that there is a fast taxi. Also, no lights. A couple more tweaks I'd like to see are to improve the external cockpt frosty look - the VC is perfect, but the external looks like someone cleaned it with a brillo pad. And perhaps a better prop - I see almost no animation at higher rpms.

It's Gone...

Having spent time with this model, I place it equivalent to something in late Beta development.

There are just so many little things: truly awful sound, no effect on prop feather, string AoA indicator pointing to the horizon at vertical stall, flight model almost there but not quite, some small texture issues...the longer I spent with it the more uncomfortable it became.
Usually a model becomes more "amenable" as you get used to it, but this one just went the other way.

Then it froze the sim on switching to VC.
A hard reboot was required, something I don't do lightly, and haven't had to do for ages.

In a subsequent session I changed from one of the freeware Pitts I was flying for comparison, to this one...and got a Blue Screen of Death.
This hasn't happened to me since, probably, Windows ME.
The Addictive Pitts has now left my HDD, followed by a full system restore predating installation.

There is an AVSIM review on the way, be interesting to see another take on this model.

So far, so good. No problems with my install.

What is that thing on the port wing supports - some kind of slip indicator?? Well, it works. Take it up for a spin, look out the left side, and do some gyrations with the joystick. Pretty cool.

One thing I gotta fix is the pilot (male). I look much better than he does. I got more hair, too. :wiggle:

If anyone wants a better prop texture and a (male) pilot with hair and without a day-glo vest [currently looks more like a UK council worker than a pilot], you might want to try these textures. If you do use this prop texture, I also suggest adding this line to each aircraft cfg entry:

prop_anim_ratio=0.030

let me know what you think!

A.
