Apparently, Germans *can* sing...

Bjoern

worst developer ever
...at least Lena can. :d

We've won the Eurovision Song Contest last night!

I've watched it live in an irish pub in Hannover (her hometown) and everytime she got good scores from the other countries the cheering was just as loud and enthusiastic as a goal during a world/euro cup. It was awesome! :d
Today she arrived back in town, her arrival being covered in real time, of course. Then there was a huge, public welcome back party.
I was there, too but sadly a tad too late to see her and her discoveror live. But I was there. :d

Nice mood in the city all around. Bring on the world cup!

Germans have always had a deep culture of group singing. I've seen it first hand with Luftwaffe pilots in a bar. Frankly, I've always admired it.

Playing devil's advocat here again *music* *cough*.
The fact that this song won the contest just shows how low the standards are these days in European popular music. The song doesn't have a good melody, isn't even composed or arranged very well, and the little Lady - while she may become a great performer in a couple of years - is not (yet) all too good.
Her benefit was that all of her competitors made too much drama music. The jury just voted for easy listening rather than big theathre, a natural choice in a pop contest me thinks. :salute:
"Wo die Sonne der Kultur niedrig steht, werfen sogar Zwerge große Schatten".

PS. She's pretty easy on the eyes too ;) :d

Yep.

And, according to the kind of responses she's given in her interviews, she's not taking this stuff all too seriously as well.

"What's you current relationship status?"
- "I'm in my eighth forced marriage."

I like her. :d

I beg to differ in every regard. For radio compatible music this song is rather good, as is her voice. The amateurism in her performance is actually a bonus point. She doesn't desperately try to deliver a show, she *is* the show.

I haven't listened to the Turks, but from what I've seen the looked like they rocked out at least a bit.

That was a good thing indeed. The previous years, trying to jump on the preferably southern and eastern european drama train went horribly wrong.

"Wo die Sonne der Kultur niedrig steht, werfen sogar Zwerge große Schatten".

Actually, looking at everything Germany had thrown into the ESC since Raab himself, the sun is beginning to rise again.

LOL
in the 70's a friend of mine won
sadly the competition is worth about
1 beer from a free bar
from time to time the talent shows
come up with someone great
but thats once in a lifetime
no disrespect to the person that won
but thats life

No matter what, for us Germans it's important to get some success points in sympathy in Europe. "Germany, zero points", was not for nothing a running gag in the last decades, especially those after the war. I am happy we won.

Bravo to Germany..
The Eurovision Song Contest even if it is NOT perfect, the Nation and Young lady should be very proud..
:salute:

I have to admit it was the first time ever I did watch the "Eurovision Song Contest".
Definately not my kind of music...

Wifey just wanted to take a glimpse on Lena's performance, but we both got mesmerised by the competition all the way to the end...
Funny kind of freak show in some aspects (butterfly costumes, ridiculous Serbians, "Oppa"-shouting Greeks and at least a latex-wearing bombshell from Romania).
But not as painful as I initially thought.

No question - Lena is cute!
Congrats to her.

... the Nation and Young lady should be very proud..
She should - and she sure is. In a sympathetic way.

Cheers,
Markus.

Greeces entry was fantastic... should have done better than it did, one thing that spoils eurovision is that damn political voting, granted they tried to iron it out but it's still present, and from a Greek to all the people in the UK on here (Myself excluded) Thank you for 12 Points :ernae: i'll admit the German lass was easy on the eyes but i've had too much to drink on a night out and sounded better the following morning... toneless...tuneless... flat (no guys i'm on about the song here), songs are always better when sung in their countries language and not making a complete pigs-ear of the English Language... just my 2 cents here...

granted, well done Germany...

The Eurovison contest has a long and constant history of mediocrity... The only year where there was a really funny, talented entry was 2007. It, of course, did not win. Not really a PC song. They sing it in English, French and Hebrew (there are subtitles). That was quite a show. A French writer once said politics and art dont marry well. There're exception to the rule. I love that mix of rock and kletzmer !

Same goes the other way around!
Lyrics like the ones from "Satellite" should better be not understood here... :d

Further note on Lena's (sort of) English:
The great Roger Boyes, correspondent for "The Times" in Germany (author of "My dear Krauts") characterised her accent appearing like spoken by some retarded farmers in the australian outback...
I bet Lena doesn't care too much about that!

Definately not my kind of music...

Not mine either, but I kind of like the competitve, international component.

Even the national Bundesvision Song Contest doesn't have bands or musicians I would listen to.

I'd also like to congratulate Ireland's entry ....another spectacular defeat :guinness::guinness::guinness:

;)

Like an Irishman in the pub put it: "Hooray, we came second...from bottom." :d

2006.

They did everything right.

I wouldn't either. Better have whatever of an accent than ze stenderd dschörmen one.
It's not like she ain't totally non-understandable either.

i don't know how i can fully put this but everyone should be required to sing in their respective countries language, and call me weird but i understood the Greek one much easier than Lena... and Greek is only my 2nd Language...

i can only hope in the future they can fully stamp out political voting, and actually have some talent... year after year it seems us Greeks have to carry the show on our Shoulders :icon_lol:

Enjoy!....:ernae:

The Turks were better. *Cough*

yes but us Greeks gave the world music and civilization as we know it... and Bjoern for singing Turkish praise, i hope England meet Germany in the world cup and win... lets say 5-1 again.. your alternate punishment is to spend 5 minutes inside clarksons V8 blender :icon_lol: just kidding, it's only 2 minutes... :icon_lol:
