Area 51 C-17 Released...

WarHorse47

SOH-CM-2024
I had to go to the FSX forum to find this out..

http://www.sim-outhouse.com/sohforums/showthread.php?55421-Area-51-C-17-released!

..but wanted to report back to the FS9 forum on some feedback.

I've got an older system and video card, and after seeing the high specs on "the other" C-17, I decided to wait for this release. AFter seeing the announcment I picked it up and I'm happy to report I'm glad I did.

The install was straightforward. Took a short hop from John Stinstrom's McChord with MAIM AI to Boeing Field.

The Area51 C-17 flew like a dream. Both 2D and VC were straighforward. Model, sounds and textures are great. No surprises and no major framerate hits on my old PC.

Nice shots, WH.
This is one model I can say with some certainty I would not buy.
I had the freeware gmax academie as my C-17 workhorse for a long time, and very satisfying, I still think.
I see I also have the FSD one (also freeware) which unfortunately coincided with the ALPHA release for me.
Having waited near on 2 years for that VC to emerge, I now have more C-17 than I know what to do with!

Glad you like the screenshots.

I have the FSD release, which promptly went into my hangar. I don't have the gmax academie or Virtavia versions. I elected not to get the Virtavia release because it exceeded my video card specs. I went with Area51 because I've had good results with their other releases, and I wasn't disappointed with this release.

I like the busy cockpit and the fact it doesn't have a major framerate hit on my rig. The Area51 C-17 Globemaster III is now one of my favorites. The C-17 also peaks my interest because I live close to Joint Base Lewis-Mchord and they frequently fly over my house.

Well it shows that many variants of the same thing can serve various target markets, especially if it is a great plane to start with, which this McDonnell Douglas design most certainly is.
The C-17 is one of my very favourite 4-engine hotrods, and is never off my HDD
