ive been hearing a DC 8 land at McClellan air park in Sacramento california lately and saw a pic of one at Paine field in washington last week,,,then today one landed again..so i looked it up on flight tracker,it came from Portland to McClellan and is from a company called Air Transport International Llc,,,,they have a website and they list a DC8 combi and a DC8 frieghter...i find it interresting..id like to know who has chartered this or what they have been hauling in and out of sacramento....

I think they may just have a "field office" of sorts there. There is a business listing for them at McClellan.

I know they have been there for several years and one their DC-8's has been parked over by the Coast Guard station for ages (grounded maybe?).

DHL used to have a DC-8 fly into Mather on a regular basis but I haven't seen it lately. Polar Air Cargo, Evergreen and Kalitta Air 747's often visit McClellan as well.

I don't think any of them are still in use as airliners. However, there are a good number of cargo haulers that still use them including UPS.

i hear the evergreen "heavy" regularly,,,but ive just started hearing the dc8...maybe theyve just started the calloout as dc reciently...

My unit had a contract DC-8 move our equipment on a deployment a few years ago. As I recall, it was white with red trim. Does that match up with the DC 8 that you saw?

About 4 years ago, my company working in tandem with another company hired an outfit called Sportsflight Air to run logistics to a couple of overseas locations. They flew DC-8's with CFM-56 engines and they could run Combination Cargo & Passengers on their planes which was needed to run both cargo & personnel for us. If I recall correctly they only had a small number of DC-8's. Not sure if they are still around or not.

i dont see them...i listen to my scanner, they id themsevles as ATN102 DC8 heavy on the radio and say they are landing "runway one-six McClellan",i can hear most of northern california with my set up..from Redding california to stockton, can hear SFO..but thats just to much radio chatter so i leave that off...ive heard everything from a CDF ( now CalFire) airtanker clip a tree with a wiing to a mayday from a Pacific gas and electric helo that crashed in the canyon bottom near me...

I went by McClellan Sunday looking for Aero Union birds and found this instead. Apparently they have more than just some "field office" there.

The pics are kinda crappy because I had to resize and convert to jpeg to post.

cool...i saw that tail sticking out last time i went down that way from the freeway...just saw a fast glimst....wondered what it was....,,,
