ARNO's MDLX

I thought about converting the Alphasim F-4s but it does not make sense for me because there are good naval F-4's now for FSX (Milviz F-4J/S and very soon SimWorks Studios F-4B/N). The ones that might be worth doing are the newer pack 3 RF-4/RAF Spey engined models because these do not exist for FSX. You might consider converting the exterior only, then marry it with a good native FSX interior. I can highly recommend the Milviz F-4 - I use the J/S interior with the IRIS RAF Phantom exterior, works like a charm.

The F-4k was my intentional target but it seems my rig is much further gone that I originally thought so it's going to be a while if ever before I can look into it. As for the Milviz F-4j/S it looks amazing yes but truth is I cannot justify that kind of cash for an aircraft or the Simworks one so I must stick with Whatever freeware options there are available. But all this is still great news I can't wait to see what gems get bought a cross from the fs9 world now.

Essex, could you clarify this a bit. I am having some trouble wrapping my old grey head around this. LOL

There's a long thread to read here;
http://www.fsdeveloper.com/forum/threads/fs9-fsx-aircraft-model-conversion-an-experiment.427512/

Editing .X files is no longer necessary, and it sounds like editing/creating animations in ModelDef.xml is preferred to editing .xanim files, so some of the information in the thread is obsolete.

Start with something very simple first!

OK, I see where you went with this. We're both attacking it the same way, I just made my own prop disc's in skup to FSDS to MDLX. Thanks for the point to visibility conditions. That should also fix the last gritch to get my alpha TSR2 into X- sort out the drag chute animation-sorry, kids, that ones still payware and a personal use! The merge feature on MDLX has to be the single great innovation, particularly the bass-ackwards way I go at this!

This is pretty cool. I might have a try at converting David Maltby's VC-1 to FSX. If I use the latest program will that convert the most basic animations too?

Best is to use the latest development release, Arno issues updates regularly. If you load an FS9 mdl and open the animation editor, many FS9 animations are converted to their FSX counterparts and will behave correctly, some are converted but will not show/behave correctly after exporting and some cannot be converted (showing up as unknown). MCX uses the animations code from your SDK ModelDef.xml file to do this conversion. The challenge now is to add new animation code to your ModelDef.xml file to repair the ones that behave incorrectly or are unknown.

An example of an animation that MCX will convert but does not behave correctly is the rudder. Many FS9 aircraft have rudders with keyframes which can make them rotate 360 degrees. If you use the standard rudder animation as assigned by MCX, that rudder will be in the wrong place/angle in FSX. To fix this, I added a custom rudder animation code to my ModelDef.xml, problem solved.

Wish that when it came to a cat launch, that the new Milviz F4J would of added the effect of the oleo strut raised and bridles attached as shown,

F-4J_VF-21_on_cat_USS_Ranger_%28CV-61%29.jpg

I don't own the F4J but I have tried the float solution.
I wonder if it would be possible instead to use a 4th "aux gear" slaved to the launch bar function. XML tools seems to offer this ability, but my programming skills are non-existent so I don't know for sure.
Conversion to FSX native opens up all sorts of possibilities.

Been experimenting with Paul fosters Canberra and all animations seem to look fine with the exception of the flaps which rotate 'up' through the wings!! could someone remind me what I'm supposed to do to solve this issue??

H, these flaps are deployed at keyframe 0, retracted at 50 and then move up above keyframe 50. The trick is to play with the animation code scale/bias to make sure the flaps are restricted within the keyframes 0 - 50 range. I quickly converted one of Paul's Cranberry pack 1 - B2 models (see attachment). The ModelDef.xml custom flap code is also included as text file.
BTW: I converted the bomb bay doors FS9 concorde visor key command to the FSX exit-2 key [SHIFT-E-2].

cheers, Henk.

Queen of the Skies

Now I like all that NavAir trappin stuff but this model is just so sweet and so is the FDE. She really was a performer ahead of her time and the perfect "classic VIP" means of transport. I don't have the necessary talent, but if one of you could convert the model to FSX so other VC's could be merged in, this would be a great flyable . .

could some one please upload a working copy of ModelDef.xml when i convert a model and tag the rudder controls etc it does not work correctly even after editing my copy of ModelDef.xml

Thank you for your help

Howzat.:mixed-smiley-010: Ah, the VC-10's, they are in the 'someday' file. Grappling with KBT '52'sand AS F-4's, both being uncooperative in the aileron department, and fiddling with things with propellers.
I am quite shocked at how nice the KBT B-52's are in view of their rather advanced age. The NB-52 is intriguing. Haven't got down to that file, but if the X-things under the wings can be sanded off, I wonder if the glider tow function could be diddled to 'tow' an X-24 under the wing. Never really looked into the glider thing-silence in the cockpit is one of those things that sets off a fright reaction!
