ASOBO P-51 IMPROVEMENT MOD

I've lost the pilot in the plane. I would swap the opening canopy to have the pilot again.

You're lucky, I lost the whole plane. No Moonbeam McSwain. There is a P51 Reno aircraft in content manager the is not accessible because it says it requires ORBX generic instruments. I uninstalled the Reno package and reinstalled it. In the middle right now of seeing if that worked or not.

Anyone know why this might not be working for me? I have a lot of p51s from the Reno mod and none of them seem to be working with this mod.

LouP
As far as I'm aware, it only works on the base model P-51d Mustang, the rest of the Reno planes are completely different models etc. due to their specific airframe modifications.

Priller, the pilot shows by using one of the ID light switches, the red light switch is the cuffed prop mod, the other operable light switch show/hides the pilot.

Have you deleted the prior mod folder from the community folder, it's been renamed zzz... , the older mod was Asobo P-51 mod... There may be a conflict if the 2 folders are in the community folder.

It's all working perfectly for me apart from a graphic anomaly with the open canopy in VR. Do any of you guys know how I can take a screenie of the VR image?

And where can I find that switch? Where on what panel?
Ok, there's a small 3 switch box (ID lights) on the RHS cockpit side wall just in front of the instrument panel, the middle one is the prop swap switch & the rearward switch is the pilot toggle switch.

Only have the latest version aliased to the sim via FSAdd-on linker. Deleted the old mod when I installed this new one. I took the mod out and the base P51 still didn't show. Did some research and others have issues with the Orbx generic instruments causing P51s to disappear. When people contact Microsoft they are told to contact ORBX. The people who contacted ORBX were told to contact Microsoft. And we wonder why 2024 is such a cluster. Not my job, man!

Howdy all! JCWeston alerted me to this thread so I figured I ought to face the music. A bit of an introduction:

I'm a 24 year-old warbird fanatic from the USA. All of this ultimately started as a supplement to some Computer Science studies I am involved in, and wanted to use a live-action exercise to learn Blender modeling, texturing, and animation. I've been tinkering with MSFS mods for about 2 years now, starting with scenery, then liveries for a VA I manage with a friend from Spain. Now, I'm trying my hand with these mods for the P-51 and T-6 as a result of the aircraft being default in MSFS2024. I am also trying (and experiencing various levels of failure) to make some improvements to the P-51A, but that airframe is heavily encrypted which makes things easier said than done.

I am overjoyed seeing the fellow warbird aficionados enjoying this mod. It's been a very long road with a lot of help from smarter devs helping me understand the component parts. I have to give a special thanks to JT (WarbirdSim) for providing the K6523 prop model, as without his help I wouldn't have been able to find the necessary resources to model it myself.

If Discord isn't your thing, feel free to drop a line here as now that I am aware of this thread I'll be watching as I continue to work on and improve the mod. I've got a long list of "fixes" I'd love to implement, but I only work on these projects when I'm not otherwise occupied with work.

The pilot visibility and prop variants are triggered by switches on the IFF light panel. I am aware of some texture bugs with rivets, as JT mentioned, which I am trying to troubleshoot as I write this. I also just noticed the K6523 prop spinner seems to be slightly off axis at low RPM so I'll be addressing that in an update as well.

As for which versions of the Reno P-51D this mod works with, right now JUST the "Base Reno Pack" with the cheesy reno-esque "Speedy" livery. There is a possibility of bringing mods to other versions, but because there was not a standardized development process across the different partner devs, any effort would bring varied levels of success. For example: the canopy lever/crank on one of the other P-51 models isn't animated, so while I could make it a "click spot", the canopy would just magically slide open/closed which detracts quite a bit from immersion in my opinion.

As for losing the whole aircraft from the selection menu, that's new to me. I'd need some more information about other mods installed to try locating a file conflict as I've never heard of this being an issue before.

Happy flying!
Randall

OK, finally the old guy got it working. Don't know what I did exactly but I did reinstall all the Reno stuff.

LouP :)

I have been meaning to ask this about the Asobo P-51. Where the Aeroplane Heaven version is patterned (liveries at least) after WW2 Mustangs, is the Asobo version mostly, if not all, Reno Racing liveries? I personally prefer WW2 era paints. Same way I am not a fan of all the "Red Bull" paints. Never understood the attraction for them. I guess, for me, it's like when I see for sale ads for WW2 Willys jeeps that externally are beautiful, but then I read that the owner had switched out the original reliable and trusty Willys 4 Cylinder engine with a Chevy V8. Horror upon horrors!! My last example is because I had a beautifully restored Willys MB, but sadly had to sell it to pay a divorce lawyer. Grrrrrr....😡 NC

Yes and no. They took a handful of Mustangs from the Unlimited Class at Reno as a base. There are some "warbird" variants, such as Bunny and Man O' War, but the majority of the pack is based on racers like Voodoo, Strega, Miss America, and Goldfinger.

Keeping in mind the mod only works on the "Base Pack", we are currently limited to 3rd party liveries for the "warbird" look.

One thing I am hoping to do is create a new "livery" decal for the airframe with a much better UV map. If that can be done livery painters can have some creative freedom without pulling their hair out trying to make heads or tails of the cluttered default textures. Time will tell how that goes.

I'm also unsure if you all have seen this or not, but Echo 19 is making a soundpack for ALL the Mustangs currently available (AH, Asobo 2020 and 2024). I keep replaying the video because I get goosebumps every time. 😅

I've been asked to notate any specific sounds that would be nice to have and report back to the developer. So far I've recommended the iconic Merlin cough when the power comes to idle, opening canopy sound, and keeping the gunport whistle on landing.

Many thanks Randall for your hard work on the P-51 MOD. Great work so far! I'm not a "Discorder" so it's also great to have you up on here.
