Assigning Joystick button to view GPS?

Trying to make things easier for my father in law by assigning a joystick key for bringing up the GPS.

Is this possible, and if so, how?

Along those lines, I am trying to locate a small utility (I think it is called Joy BindX), but can't find it now. It allowed you to assign assignments to whatever joystick button you want to.

Thanks.

it's doable, but takes some work.

The key to call up the GPS is different for every plane. Some have it on shift+4, while others are on 5, 6, etc.

You could edit the panel files and switch stuff around and always assign the same shift+number to the GPS, then simply map that to the joystick.

if he only flies one type of plane, then just find out the GPS shortcut for that particular plane and map it...

I can only reiterate what feng said with the addition that I have an X-52 and have it set up so One button is "Shift" and one hat is set to produce the numbers 2,3,4,5 so that's how I work most of the subpanels --click "shift" button on joystick and simultaneously move the hat in the appropriate direction.. sure works well when all H&ll is breaking lose on approach.
However if it's a simple stick you probably don't have the extra hat or spare buttons to set something like that up ... then the best hope is feng's last suggestion
