AT Simulations release the Brussard

In my Opinion, it must be clear for every customer that the software he buy and install, need an internet-connection to be able to use the software every time he want to use it in the sim. At the time i bought it, that was not clear for me and i think a lot of other customers. An Internet connection is needed by a lot of addons during the installation-process. Carenado, JustFlight and many others work this way, but not for "start" an addon in the sim.
I did not like a software for my flightsimulation that works this way and make my hobby depending from a "working internet-connection". In case there are technical problems with the internet-connection and/or there are problems at the provider-side, than you can fly a black box in your sim - very funny.

To clarify here, i like the Broussard and the work of ATSimulations a lot - it is a very nice plane with a lot of features and great on frames, the price is absolut reasonable and i have a great respect for every developer who brings a good addon - but i would like to know that the addon will need a connection to the internet, everytime i want to use it - and that, before i buy it - not after a member here, brought that to our attention.

It should be stated at the ATSimulation-Website, the requirements and also in the manual what exactly the software did when it was connected to the internet !

Hi,

So ...if black Box I have my own solution ... working great !!!I blacklist the ATSimulation :pop4:

I agree! There are quite a few people who use PC's that are not connected to the internet for flightsim.

Incredible how some devs are able to shoot themselves in the foot...

It seems that ATSimulations follow this thread - they changed the Requirements on their website again - now it looks so :

[h=3]System requirements:[/h] - FSX SP2 / Acceleration pack or FSX SE or P3D v3 (v4)
- Internet connection when starting the plane (license key validation)
- Available hard drive space: 1.5 GB (for one platform)
- Video card: DirectX 10 compatible

That clarify why an internet-connection is needed. So please ATSimulations, change this - it is not the right way to secure your software. Like Carenado, it should be sufficient enough to validate the key during the installation. Who give us costomers the security that the lisence key is the only thing that will be checked? And what happend if ATSimulations will be hacked?

Dirk

AT Simulations should review this kind of behaviour.
Even ChasePlane has abandonned this requierement after few months during the early beta, taking into account reactions from users (the intent was getting info on user experience).
Hope that they will listen their customers.

yesterday evening I asked ATS about transfering user data. The answer came prompt:

Internet connection in very first moment of Broussard loading is needed to check the key validation (now) and check for updates (in future).
On our opinion, most transparent, most fluent way to do that. And for users as well - no any activation procedures, no fingerprints etc.

For me it sounds ok. So I leave this nice addon on my plate.

Anyway, did another high quality repaint of our second, in Germay flying MH-1251 F-GJJM from EDEW Wallduern airport. Will update it here soon.

what happens if you are on a standalone? for me when i travel with work for lengthy periods and i take my laptop and do paints, with no internet it effectively renders the addon useless

As I mentioned in a prior post, their approach makes me a little uncomfortable.

Don't get me wrong, I think the Broussard is a great product. As Matt mentioned it can be a problem for those that are on a standalone. Even though I am on cable, I can still fly if the cable is down and I have power - except I'd be flying a black box for the Broussard under those conditions.

I'd like to hear more about their plans to "check for updates." I'd like to know what is installed or updated on my computer so I can decide if I need the update or not. Lately, I've felt that some updates are frivolous and a waste of my time because they're aimed more for P3D installs instead of FSXA - but that's just me.

BTW - looking forward to the repaint. Thanks for your efforts.

IMHO:

If you buy an addon, download it and install it, it is yours.

No dev should have the right to hack into your pc to check the license. There is such a thing as privacy, and over here in Europe, we have very well defined laws about that.

It is software you buy, not something like Office365 that you rent.

The more we voice our concern, the better we have chance to convince the developer to review this procedure...
We should all send him a mail !

I was actually close to purchasing this aircraft because it looks extremely well done. But in view of the preceeding posts, I think I’ll put it on hold unless the developers change this.

Its ok for if the whole title check online the licence.
We know it from the market. Eagle Dynamics (DCS), 1CGS (IL-2 Sturmovik) do this but its for whole sim, once, but the addon?
Can't imagine if the others do the same way in every time and what if I havent net for a limited time? DCS and IL-2 offers offline mode, I suppose here no this option? :dizzy:
According me its a wrong way. The one from difficult security has SSW (manual hardware fingerprint) but its one time also.

The way the post above re: license checks makes it sound like it was just once when you first start the aircraft, not for every time after.
I'm pretty confident in my connection, so I bought it
Been loving it so far!
Does anyone else notice the 985 is really a beast to keep cool sometimes?

Once again - the Broussard is a very, very nice plane and have the potential to be a "Bestseller" - i hope that ATSimulations will change the way they handle the "Lisence-Check".

As Warhorse47 mentioned in his peply, i did'nt like an addon which checks for updates by himself. The other thing is that an internet-connection works ever in two directions - once a connection is established, others can have access to your PC. It is not that i will say ATSimulations will do that but they could be hacked as every other account in the world-wide-web and then .... .

My thought

Dirk

I emailed Andrey a few days ago and received a reply in which he stands by the decision to use the internet check. I disagree with him and wish he'd change his mind. I suspect this will impact sales of the Broussard and that's a shame as it's a very well done plane.

Still glad I bought it but disappointed that there will be times on my PC that it will be unusable.

cheers,
steve
:wavey:

Btw. as I know the ChasePlane uses the same idea - checks licence and update every time when I start P3D so it looks like that this idea becomes more popular
but this model looks fantastic and its in my "style" definitely :applause:.

Hello gentlemen,

Quite hot discussion here I found, let me clear some things.

First of all thank you so much for kind words about our projects, special thanks to people who purchase them, you will not be disappointed I'm sure.

About Internet connection which is must with ATS Broussard, and so hot hated here - it used ONLY for key validation.
In case when we see hack attempts with tenth sold copy, defence system is the point we are forced think about. As soon as we would have even half of "Carenado" or "Aerosoft" market part, we will cut this system at all :)

Take a look around, nowadays refrigerators, tv and even toasters could be connected to the Internet, so it's quite simple requirement to ask and provide easiest way to check the copy. I do believe that most applications in your phone do the same.
If you are using sim in lonely chalet up in a mountains without any web connection... well, seems Broussard is not for you right now..

So, no doubt - if you like it, take it. We are working on some updates right now, tundra, skies, floats maybe ILS versions would be provided in 2019.

I can't monitor this thread too often, so if you have some question better drop me a line into PM or email.

Andrey, thank you very much for your explanation here - i think it is clear now for everyone.

All the Best

Dirk

So i make my decision - it is a so wonderfull plane that i must live with the "Lisence-check" ;-) - today i have some "Winter-fun-flying" to test the new paint from TiAir - thanks for that by that way. What i miss is the long antenna on the top - as seen on many Broussards :mixed-smiley-010: Maybe in the future....
