Attention all DC-3 fans !

I served on 511 Sqdn RAF Transport Command with Hastings aircraft. Whenever we ran the engines up, full power or not, we were always chocked, and the stick was held back. Neither of which shows in the film.

Having said that, the sounds and the VC are truly wonderful works of art. A lot of love has gone into this aircraft, and it shows. A big thank you to you all.

Den.

This video was just to show the smooth transition of a multitude of sounds used thru the rpm band. Realism not applied! :biggrin-new: No chocks available and will check with Jan on this.

Just keeps getting better and better! We hear the starter solenoid engage, push rods and rocker arms clanking, then the lovely lope at low RPM. I swear I could smell gasoline, oil, leather, sweat, and zinc chromate in that stunning cockpit.

Noticed you push up #2 before starting #1: does the ammeter show the generator kick in around 15-1700?

Watching Weeks' do an engine run and he mention it in this video, so I thought I would simulate that.

I know the point was a sound demo, not a realistic reenactment, so don't take this is a criticism, but I couldn't help but wonder if the people standing and parked behind complained? Watching your runup reminded of that constant concern.

That would be cool if wind could be simulated!!! All that dust, dirt, gravel, blowing all over.

No animals, people, cars, were hurt or damaged in making of this video! :biggrin-new:

BTW, does the Gooney Bird's manifold pressure now change with a change in RPM?

I will check with Jan if this has been looked at. Mostly my focus is on the sounds and effects, not so much flying. I use FSX for testing of freeware/payware products.

And well done, too. I was just curious if the "new" electrical system reflects the use of generators that need RPM to come on line as Kermit demonstrated vs modern alternators that produce juice even at low RPM. Not a gripe in any way, cool that you remembered that and used the technique, just curiosity. Probably another question for Manfred.

BTW, for those of us who enjoy repaints, we can all be glad we don't have to do this. (Hmmm, how come two images?)

Please check the plane if it does not flood a multiplayer server, you can do at DTP(ask zoolander)
i have the dc2 payware, and it is useless on MP,it were a shame if something goes wrong at this beauty.......
the cockpit and sound is only important when you can use the plane,if not it is a waste of time to do all this work.........
we will do a lot groupflights with this plane..........

Thank´s all for your nice work,
cheers Ralf

Well, since only a minority of users fly MP, this work is hardly a waste of time, even if there is flooding. It will be nice if there are no MP flooding issues, but that's hardly the only or even main concern. Either way, these amazing improvements will be appreciated and used, by many, many simmers.

And you can always continue flying the current sound, cockpit, skins packages, since they are fine in MP.

Hi Folks,

Have been watching this thread with interest for a while now, I've said it many times but the sound can make or break a Sim, it can look perfect but without the correct sound it will never be right and that's way I take my hat off to TuFun for pushing the envelope, you have so far got the best start up and shut down for the R1830 Radial and prop sounds perfect too, I have Skyhigh Audio Simulation's sound set fitted to all my C-47 and I'm having fun comparing the two!, Adam Murphy of Skyhigh has made a wonderful job with the sound cones within FSX and I just love to look listen from a view point on the airfield as she approaches and passes!, he's even managed to get the prop wash from behind position, but, TuFun is now taking it further, your very close to cracking it young sir!, in your next video can you get her low and fast past the camera?, love to hear that for more comparing!, I have your lovely silver Cloud C 47 as well as MJ c 47 Base pak, WOW!!!, please keep up the good work on the sound front!' it's so important I feel!

Thank you ever so much Steve.

it look´s and sounds fantastic!

i hope it work on MP,i fly only online, never freeflight.........

the Basler vc i do not use,i do not like it,at moment i use the vc from v1,the skins and the plane is my favorite, only miss a realistc vc.........

i have buy the dc2 for a nice vc,but it has MP flooding issues.........so it is useless for me,i will pay for a good dc3 wat i can use for mp,but there is no one,so this one is my hope:applause:

Fifty years ago

A little off track on this thread but while we are all anxiously awaiting the latest update on this beautiful looking and sounding bird , I thought I would slip this in here . After completing Aviation Ordnance School in 1966 at El Toro MCAS in Santa Ana , Calif they gathered a bunch of us and said we were going TDY from El Toro MCAS to Yuma MCAS . We were all awaiting orders to Vietnam so they thought it would be a good idea to kill a few weeks in the desert . To my surprise we all boarded a R4D (Marine Corps version of C-47) I was thrilled to death but a few were scared sh--less :biggrin-new: It has been close to 50 years but I still remember the startup , flight and landing . It was a trip in an old classic I'll never forget . When the pilot cranked up the big P & W's I was fairly close to the wing so I got to see up close the dripping oil , fire and smoke . The flight was not a comfortable one for most but I enjoyed smelling the fuel and oil but it was cold as hell . Very fortunate to have been able to actually fly in this old classic . The picture below I just grabbed off the internet but as I remember it looked very similar to the one we flew in that was based at El Toro . A real thrill of a life time for me . I've been hooked on aviation ever sense .

I've had the pleasure of flying the Alpha version with TuFun's latest sound set, and yes, it is every bit as good as the videos portray.

I've been working on updating all of my original skins to 4096 32bit renderings. I've also gone back and upgraded much of my original work to incorporate new techniques for polished metal and DX 10/11/12 light rendering. There are also going to be a few new skins from me for the JVVC version.

The upgraded bump and specular files will be generic for all current and previous paints made for the airplane. I'll make the support files available when the airplane releases.

The good news is that this plane, even with Jan's incredible cockpit art and the high def skins, makes solid 50+FPS over my maxed out sceneries with the sliders at WFO. The plane performs very well.

Some caps for now, but a video will really be necessary to show the light rendering at it's best. That's coming shortly.

Prepar3D 3.2 straight screen caps no post process

Oh heavens!, I've only just downloaded your first pack, I haven't got over how wonderful the C-47 are in that yet!!, most keep an eye open for when this all comes on line!!!!, can't wait, they really all look and sound fabby.

Nice one Gordo :very_drunk:, I was walking around the Wigram museum hanger queen on Tuesday , I really hate it when the museums turn out the lights .. I was a guide with the tour guides to help fill the spaces and explain the insides of that specific Dak ... since it carried the Queenie back in 1953 and other times it is very plush inside ... not as nice looking as your paints tho :encouragement:

BTW,

For those who are wondering, the JVVC also works in the C-117, although not perfectly or as coded for the C-47, but it does work.
Be advised, this is my adaptation and not endorsed by Jan. To make a specific VC for the C-117 would require an entirely separate model which is a ton of extra work.

Adapting the JVVX to the C-117 requires an adjustment to the view eyepoint code in the .cfg file to use OPUS or EZDok setups that match the C-47.
Also performance data would need to be modified in the .cfg as well. I'm playing with that now.

Bear in mind that the model is specifically for the C-47, and will have the windshield post in the interior model if flying the C-117. I can live with it.

oh dear, that looks great.
I may have to revisit most of my paints as well....

Please drag out the Southern Airlines one you did for me. Only two flights in a -3 in 1962.

Memphis to Tri Cities and back with stops in Nashville. And as I remember there were very,
very few passengers.

EDIT: Boy was I wrong! After searching I found it was Hanimichal, and it was the FSX DC3 (pg.10).
@Jankees or gman or Hani : I sure would like to see it for Manfred's 3.

Oh man, think I will have to take a vacation, just to be able to spend some time enjoying Manfred's C-47 with the new/old VVC, Tufun's soundpack, and these amazing paints.

Oh, and as I'm at it, I might as well do the panel update to the C-117

Yahoo!! I can't wait.
