Morton, Help with your Sky Drive Site

For some reason when I attempt to download a panel (any panel, but the one I want is the P39), all it downloads is the .jpg image.
What am I doing wrong ??

If anyone has Mortons P-39 panel I would much appreciated

Dave,

A suggestion most of us follow here, don't post your email address in the open. PM it.

I recommend editing your post by deleting the email address.

Good advice to ALL Dog,

But I have it included on all the pages of the Free Flight Site and in all the work I have ever released,
so a bit too late for me.......Mark sent me the panel ( Thank You mark ) so email removed.

Thank You DevilDog and all the other SOH staff that have worked so very hard to keep this site open
and free from the hackers. :ernaehrung004:

As most of you know I have uploaded most of my files to Microsoft Skydrive as a backup. But Skydrive suddenly changed the way these files were organized on screen so I decided to rework the entire site.

If you enter my Skydrive you will now see 4 folders:Korea/Vietnam - Panels - WW2 Europe - WW2 Pacific.
If you click on one of them you only see the file thumbnail pictures.
To download a file, just select it and download.
When finished you will find a copy of the file on your PC. It will look like: A6M2b_Zero.zip.jpg
To unpack you have to delete the last file extension. The file will then look like: A6M2b_Zero.zip
Now it is just to unzip it as usual.

The trick is of course that I have embedded all the files inside a JPG file. :encouragement:

cheers

Morton,

Thank you, I was going to contact you today to see if you were affected by IP blocking and not able to get into SOH. Great work undertaking this large-scale project! :wavey:

Rami, No problems with SOH. It's just that i've been too busy with other things for a while.
About my reworked Skydrive, I'm sure there are errors and missing files etc in the new uploads. It's a lot of files. So to all CFS2 members, to be able to fix them I need feedback.

You might also find some new "things" in there..

Morton

Doesn't work, alas

Well, it may be just me, but when I try do do as suggested, that is DL the file as a picture, and then rename it, the icon does change into a "normal" zip-icon, but when I try to click it, I just get a "file is corrupt", so obviously something is not working as intended.
Best regards
Finn

Well it could of course be corrupted Finn. But did you try another one? I use Winrar instead of Winzip, but that shouldn't matter..

Morton

No problem on my end after Mortons instructions, I will try another to test, Winzip 7 free version.

Dave

OK, but a little clunky...

Downloaded a couple, no issues for me. :distracted:

One thing you might consider changing - you don't get any hints as to the folder contents when viewing the thumbnails. You do get a description if viewing in slideshow format, but that slows the experience as the visitor needs to scroll through the different folders one at a time.

It would speed up downloading experience for users if the screengrab had a descriptive text or title on it. As it is you'r relying on people recognising the pic of the plane...:tranquillity:

Yes, I see what you mean UncleTgt. For me it's a compromize between maintaining a dedicated homepage and having some place to upload quick and dirty. There is a possibility to insert a text footer to the pictures, but that again requires the slideshow modus. But I might just do that. Another way is to press the Detailed mode in the upper right corner. Then the filenames are listed.
Anyway, the content is primarily ment for SOH members and experienced CFS2 users who usually know their stuff. Since the files are open to public I even considered naming the files with the JPG extension only just to make it a bit more hidden..

I will leave it as it is for a while. Microsoft have announced they will replace Skydrive with Onedrive in the next weeks. (trademark dispute). Who knows what they will come up with..

More ideas and comments are welcomed.

Still doesn't work for me, alas. I've tried all the tricks, but still it says that the file is damaged - and I tried a great many, albeit only the ETO files. But since others can get them, and I do not need any particular file just now, please don't do anything. As you rightly say, who knows what MS might do in near future. After that, we can try again. But let me express my deep admiration for your fantastic work - the MS-guys cannot do anything like yours.:redfire: Finn

Finn,
If you need one I can grab it for you and forward, Just tested again and all works fine here.

Sorry Morton but I'm totally lost now on how to download and convert your files. I've heard of Winzip but don't know how to use it. Do you need this to make your instructions work? I'm just frustrated now. Like the old way better, you have such great work and I don't know how to access them now. :banghead:

Try this

I'm a computer illiterate, and this is a little convoluted but it works for me. I am using Win7, by the way.

Download Morton's jpg file to your desktop. That should put an icon on your desktop. Right click on the icon and a box comes up with a lot of choices. Go down to the line "Send to" and place your mouse pointer on it. That should give you some more choices in another box. Left click on "Compressed (zipped) folder". This should put a zip icon on your desktop. It will have the same name as the Jpg/icon you downloaded from Morton's site. But this one can be opened using winRAR. Just left click this icon and a new box containing the xxx.zip.jpg file will open. Right click and slide your mouse to "View File"...for me it's the 5th line in the selection menu.....and left click. Boom, you should have all the files. From there just go to the menu bar and click the Wizard button and it will put everything into a nice neat folder.
There may be something simpler but I tried this several times and it works for me.

I just click the JPG zip, select rename.... using the backspace key I remove the .jpg leaving only the XXXX.zip
Then just click and unzip as usual.

simple
