Thanks Usio,
I appreciate this more than I can say. I can't wait to transfer some footage of your Sydney onto my parents' PC. Sydney was lost with all hands after a battle with the German raider Kormoran off the West Australian coast late in 1941. Amongst the crew was my uncle, stoker 2nd class William Lang.
The "Finding Sydney" foundation has an interesting website with good photos of the Sydney lying on a sandy bed, her bow missing and her bridge obliterated. The remains of the bow were found some hundreds of feet behind the wreck, suggesting that it did not detach until the ship was close to the bottom. A search of the ocean floor show that it is likely the Sydney dragged her stern along the floor for about 400 ft, suggesting that she glided to the bottom stern down.
Vale HMAS Sydney and all who perished with you.
