Ubuntu is a free linux OS, ( http://www.ubuntu.com/desktop ) beem around since about 2000, they are up to version 13 now, I last played with it on version 4.

I have a few Linux VM's on my external that I run through VirtualBox. Ubuntu's latest looks like it's geard more towards tablets. I prefer Mint.
