Auto-Mixture switch gauge?

Title says it all...
I was wondering if there exists a gauge for our sim that can be dropped in any panel that when activated enables auto-mixture? This would be great for us that don't usually set up for auto-mixture but there are a few planes that don't have traditional mixture controls (Rotax 912 engined planes come to mind).
I remember back in the day there was a gauge like this that enabled auto-coordination; it was just a button that said 'Auto/Coord' or something like that. I couldn't imagine us not having an auto-mixture gauge like that.
And yes I already looked up that one for the 3-tank or 4-tank Douglas DC3. I don't think that will work for my Aeroprakt A-22 Foxbat or my Diamond HK36 among other aircraft.
Thanks in advance.:wavey:

Look in the aircraft.cfg of the plane you want auto-mixture on, look in the engine section, there is a auto-mixture switch there = fuel_air_auto_mixture=0 change the 0 to 1, used on fuel injection systems.

I've tried that. I'm not sure if it works. For example, I was flying a Diamond HK36 that IRL has a fuel injected Rotax 912 and no mixture control. I couldn't get it above 7500 feet without hitting ctrl+shift+f2 a few times to lean out the mixture; lo and behold I got more power and was able to go higher--I was able to just touch 20000 feet in that flight. In the aircraft.cfg file the fuel_air_auto_mixture=1
What I might have to do is to enable automixture in the settings and try that again and see what happens.
Thanks for the input Rich; I'll have to look at my other 'fuelies' and see if they have that in the cfg file.:ernae:
I am also curious about another thing...on some planes with fuel injected engines there's still a mixture control. What gives?

I think over around 7500 ft you will need turbo charger enabled to work up to maybe 18000 ft thin air may be the problem.

Post your engine section so we can see what you have.

Re the mixture control on some fuel injected engines it may be the engine controls were originally on some other plane

Hi,

it might be a sim setting that has little to do with aircraft's gauges. You can't toggle autorudder anymore in FS9, either.

Best regards,
Volker

Hey Rich,
Happy New Year!:jump:
OK now that's out of the way here's the engine data from the Diamond I took up to near the stratosphere. Despite it being a fuel-injected Rotax 912 I still had to use ctrl+shift+f2 to lean out the mixture above 7500 feet. In retrospect a turbo would have helped a lot; it took a long time to get up to 20000 feet (then cut the power and glided across Lake Michigan). The Aircraft.cfg file is straight stock PAD aircraft--stats here will not necessarily reflect a real Rotax engine, maybe a severely de-tuned O-320 but it seems to work.

I'm pretty sure you can. Rob Barendregt had some sort of gauge out (among others). Found this one at http://www.simugold.fsnet.co.uk/gauges/gauge.html, near the middle of the page.

All right guys,
Took another Rotax 912 powered plane up, an Evektor Sportstar (a couple of Finnish guys made it I got it at FSNordic.com). This one doesn't have a mixture knob either and the fuel_air_auto_mixture=1
but lo and behold once I got up to about 6500 feet I was having problems--my rpm was dropping from 4900 to about 4500 and my climb rate was suffering. I tried ctrl+shift+f2 and sure enough my rpm came back and I was back on my way to 10000 feet. On a lark I hit pause, went to aircraft>realism settings and put a check on 'enable automixture'. The Sportstar managed to keep at 4900 rpm all the way up to 10000 feet. At that point I went back into the settings and unchecked 'enable automixture'. the rpm dropped to below 4000 and I started dropping like the proverbial lead balloon. A quick enabling of the automixture saved the day. I'm thinking I'll just need to enable automixture when I switch to fuel injected aircraft. Fun flight however.

Hi,

thanks, but the gauge you mention is for FS2k2 and autocoordination could be toggled there, but not in FS9. I'd be happy to be mistaken, but at least some other gauge did not work any more when I tried toggling autocoordination for the Graf Zeppelin a long time ago. The sim variable is still listed in the SDK, but does not affect anything.

Back to automixture: If manual mixture is enabled, gauges can be programmed to simulate Automixture. But I wouldn't be surprised if it would not work if you enable automixture in the realism settings, overriding gauge control.

Best regards,
Volker

Hey Volker,
I think I found an auto-coordination gauge that will work for you. It's from fs98 and for some reason it was hiding in my gauges folder but I added it on my Debonair and it seems to work fine--when it's on (lit up) that ball doesn't go anywhere and my rudder doesn't work unless I put in some aileron input and when it's off I can make the tail (and ball) go all over the place with my normal uncoordinated flying style. Hope this helps with the Graf.
