Once you've flown the Anson a whole bunch and worn it out, here's a way to "retire" it...

Last time I was at Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum, one of the volunteers told me that the Anson Mk V that they have there, which has an all plywood fuselage construction, has delaminating plywood because the glue has deteriorated, and the plane, which looks ready to fly, will probably never fly again. Too bad. I don't think I've ever seen the Mk. V in FS9.

Yes, the plywood tended to delaminate. The glues were still fairly primitive and of course no one expected the aircraft to be needed for a protracted period of time anyway

Couldn't agree more with the people who do not like crew figures in 2D/VC views in Anson or any other aircraft. I am all for pilot figures ,animated or not, in Spot View but panning right (or to the rear) in a Cockpit view and seeing a Frankenstein Monster immediately kills all sense of realism/immersion for me. Many thanks to those designers who provide either a "No Crew" option or an easy way to remove them.

Well I can think of a few where I particularily liked the crew or passengers.
The Piaggio 149 or the Wilga come to mind ;)

Cheers

Yes.....nice sheep !! Seriously....."photo realistic" (for want of a better term) humans (or ,in the above example, animals) are fine....it's just the Cabbage Patch Doll type figures that ruin an otherwise enjoyable aircraft for me.

John - The sheep actually came in a Mark Beaumont repaint - 'Kenya National Parks' I think it was, but I haven't been able to find it again. When Dave's Anson appeared, crew figures or pax in any form were a rarity, and subject to the 'minimal poly count' rule. I agree, that co-pilot 'is no oil painting' as we say down here, although if you look at the pax in Dave's latest Dragon Rapide, they have improved. There is also now a software which lets you put your own face on a pilot figure; I tried it, and it works, but it is very fiddly. I have always wanted some animated 'erks' to hold the wingtips on WWI planes, modelled as wheel brakes, to make taxying possible, but my skills don't lie in that direction...Freehand, I can draw steam loco's, cars, planes and useful stuff like that, but I can't for the life of me do figure drawing.

As long as those guys with the maps all agree on where we are, and what our course should be - I could probably learn to live with them!:mixedsmi:

Mark - Thanks for info re sheep. I'd quite like to have a cargo of livestock for some flights but I suppose that in reality any animal of significant size would have to be so crated up to prevent unconstrained movement endangering the aircraft that it would be pretty much invisible anyway. By the way...apologies to the original poster for drifting off at a tangent.

No Matt but my daughter happens to be married to a Welshman. Anyway, enough of sheep...this should be a clean wholesome family friendly forum !!
