Azon Bomb

thanks for the update ...... cant wait between prang and hobbit a mission will be of most high end

trip .....lol, be like in highschool first acid trip with the colours these guys will use on drops lol

Try as I might Grizzly, I can't get any of the various flares to work. I did try the landing light effect and it seems to work pretty well but only as a 2D image. I can't get it to emit spherically. If you don't hit F9 and follow the bomb down you really can't tell the difference and it looks cool. I did change the size of the light effect and give it more of a red hue. I also used Dancat's X-4 rocket effect and gave it a slightly yellowish color. I think I've run the course on this and what you see here is how they will probably be uploaded . . . after checking with Dancat and Thrasmussen (VB-13).:mixedsmi: You'll also need the "cookie" and "tallboy" effects.

I also am having a problem getting the flares to work. All of the effects seem to be there.

I think I've installed the Azon and its components correctly, and it works, but I do have a question.

First, I've used the ETO B-17 (AVH_US_B-17G-80) as the aircraft equipped with the Azon. After doing so, the Azon partially appears through the closed bomb bay doors (but won't release until the doors are opened.)

With the doors open, two bombs appear. A white one on the right side of the bomb bay (the one which partially protrudes beneath the aicraft) and a green one to the left side. They release seperately. When released, each bomb seems to "divide" and make three trailing contrails and, after hitting the ground, three explosions. However, only a single Azon will appear in the bomb view.

Is this designed in this fashion, or was the installation amiss?

@WSMWSM & Old Tiger - That may be due to incorrect pylon position in the XDP. I tested these primarily on the FP B-29. I did test it on the stock B-17 but did not inspect the bomb bay. It is possible I got the B-17 pylon arrangement wrong in the example given in the "Read Me" . . . if that's what you are using. I'll have a look at it.

@gosd - That's an effects issue. Can you double check that both DDS files are in the fxtextures folder and that the effects from the "Read Me" are copied & pasted into the effects.xml? That isn't meant to be a silly question, but it's easy to overlook something when there is alot of copying & pasting.

It was the pylon arrangement. Sorry 'bout that. Here's how it should appear in both FP and AVH B-17's. I just realized that I keep calling the FP B-17 stock.:173go1:

<Loadout Name="(4)Azon 2000lb Bombs">
<Hardpoint ID="3" PylonType="pylon_null" PayloadType="azon01" Quantity="1"/>
<Hardpoint ID="4" PylonType="pylon_null" PayloadType="azon02" Quantity="1"/>
<Hardpoint ID="5" PylonType="pylon_null" PayloadType="azon01" Quantity="1"/>
<Hardpoint ID="6" PylonType="pylon_null" PayloadType="azon02" Quantity="1"/>
</Loadout>

Mix & match to your needs.

FF: Thanks. This solved the bomb showing through the bay door issue. But should there be three bombs/contrails/explosions? Or am I the only one with this issue?

@WSMWSM - There should only be one flare and smoke trail per bomb. Can't think of what might be causing that. Can you post a pic of what's happening?

I am sorry to report that afther several install and desinstal I still can't get those babies to work in ETO.

I loaded the new Azon bombs in my PTO. The two aircraft were the AvH_Us_B-17G-80_002 and the

TK_B24_D_849. The image of the Azon appeared outside the bomb bay doors of the B-17. The B-

24 was just fine.

The correction from the SOH was added to B-17 xml and the the picture is clear.

gosd. Drop me a PM with your email address. I have the Azon Bombs working in my ETO. I will send you all the files you need.

Well, I feel rather foolish now. When I tested the Azon in Free Flight, I failed to note two trailing wingmen. It's their bombs which cause the additional contrails.

In the words of Emily Latella, "Never mind."

I have been dropping these things all over ETO, MAW and PTO and DPC Korea..

:applause: :applause:
No problems except for the Targets on the ground..ALL make Big Bangs..:ernae:
I like Big Bangs..:applause:

They work well, and look Great.
Thanks very much..

off to trash some Birds..:gameoff:

Just a random thought, would it be possible to imitate the 'guided' part of the bomb by creating a flyable anzon that could be started from 5,000 ft and flown down to the target.

I seem to remember someone did something similar with an oka kamikaze missile, but I can't remember what happened to it.
