Had a great sight today! I was standing outside talking to neighbors with wife when I heard a distinct sound in the sky coming towards us. It was the sound of four Wright- Cyclone engines! Had to look for a quick spot to see because of trees, with everyone thinking I just when over the hill, and there it was at probaly less than 2000 ft a perfectly beautiful B-17! When I yelled LOOK A B-17!! Everyone thought I was nuts and one said, so whats a B-17? When I explained, they then stood slack jawed in awe!
BEAUTIFUL SIGHT but too damn far to get to the house for a camera.

She was silver with red tail colors, heading northwest over Westchester NY at appox 1600 hours (no watch so its' a appox time guess) anybody here involved with this plane and which one it was?

Most likely...

...that was Aluminum Overcast, a B-17G kept operational by the EAS (Experimental Aircraft Assn) in Oshkosh, WI. SN 44-85740, Registration
N5017N. She is bright alumimum with a wide red stripe running vertically on her vstab. :engel016:

Thanks tr

TR;
Thanks for the confirm. I thought it was her when I looked up the operational B-17's. Just got confused because her tenative deployment shedule put here further West than here. But I guess the weather out there had some play also.
Thanks again.:ernae:

...there's another one flying out of somewhere in MA that has the red stripe on the tail, but she's got an OD paint job I think. Owned by some foundation whose name I can't recall. :engel016:

Man, did...

...you see the low-level, multi-plane B-25 flyover at the opening ceremonies for the Indy 500 Sunday? Beautiful! I reran it on the DVR just to make sure I wasn't seeing things!

Two passes during the national anthem by Special Delivery(in Doolittle Raider skin) and Takeoff Time.:applause:

Tango - The OD one with the red tail is the "Nine O Nine" I believe. Owned by the Collings Foundation, she travels the country putting on shows and giving rides.

Thanks, Cody...

...that's the one I was thinking of. :engel016:

I see...

...this gal quite frequently, as she flies through Nashville regularly enroute from her home in Georgia to various airshows. She's bright aluminum too, but with the yellow trim markings....Liberty Belle out of Douglas, GA. :male:

That site I attached is a good one for locating the various planes. Some operational, some static, or pending either status. Also lists locations of various other known ones. Some have links for ID photos.
