B-36 Peacemaker is online

if you have steam edition, drop me an email sometime. Would be fun to set up a multiplayer session with these monsters.

Oh man....can someone post some screenshots? That's a lot of natural metal right there! (Gulp).

Fantastic job Gary. You captured the unique sound of the Peacemaker very well.

I also like how you modeled the louvers closed on the J47's which seems appropriate since FSX cannot handle mixed propulsion.

And to think I have only just received my copy of 'SAC' Friday morning on Bluray DVD .. :encouragement:

Bluray......

Nice to see the real deal now available to the general public. My DVD copy is so old it kind of looked like an unauthorized bootleg version; I had to buy it from some fly-by-night overseas vendor way back when.

Thank you SOOOOO much for this, my friend's grandfather used to be a mechanic on these and said that they were monster's and easily eclipsed the B-29! I don't know much about that and if it's true but I will say I've always had sort of a crush on this plane. Now that it's here, I'm getting her! This has got to be one of the best freeware gift's ever! Now if we could just get the old Argus that Canada used, life would be just beautiful! Okay, it already is but still..... lol! Thanks again! Best regards, Jeremy

Great job and really enjoying the heck out this classic. I did ask Gary about the lack of a "crew" in the external view and if he had any plans to possibly add a few in the future. . .

#1. I didn't have any, but that could come out as a possible update in the future. The original model I created, exceeded the xtomdl vertex count by well over double, As I had a complete interior. The current model contains somewhere around 85,000 vertices. The original was somewhere over 150,000, so it did have a crew to begin with, but they went in the subsequent cleanup to lower the point count.

As I told him though, it certainly doesn't diminish the enjoyment factor at all. Thanks Gary!

Well, I had planned to do a layered paint kit for this beauty however the odd configuration of the fuselage textures has me stumped. I spoke with Gary about this and he suggested changing them to 2048x3072 to stretch them back out to a normal size but that hasn't worked, as the roundels, SAC stripes, US AIR FORCE and logo's remain warped. Consequently, any new panel lines or especially rivets will not display correctly once the work is resized to a square format (which it must be to work with the way it was mapped.

Maybe someone else will take up the project if it interests them.
