I wonder if it comes packaged with the upgrade kit that Alpha offered to it's B-58 owners as a seperate item. Prolly not tho, if it is by the original author. The Alpha B-58 by itself is a medium effort flyer, with the "Pro Enhancement", you have to manage the fuel on the jet, and it makes the plane alot more challenging to fly. Surprisingly, the model has quite the endurance levels on internal fuel.

I've got the original download from Alphasim. I can tell you acceleration from a standing start is painfully slow but once it's up to speed it's hard to slow down. Strangely, I don't recall the upgrade from Alphasim, but don't suppose I have it as I can't do anything with the internal fuel that is rearmost in the aircraft - the fuel management panel doesn't allow me to access it. Does the upgrade deal with this?

The Pro enhancement is included with the aircraft as an optional install.

I cannot justify having that as a separate chargable download.

The enhancement includes fuel management, another texture scheme, and more challenging flight model (as if it isn't hard already).

The release has absolutely nothing to do with AlphaSim and Virtavia. No support will be offered by them. Support is available through my website below.

That's good news for anyone who is looking for an excellent B-58 Hustler for FS9 and missed out on the opportunity to grab this from Alphasim.

The Pro Enhancement was a freebie from Alpha, and you're right... it does come with an additional texture. One could say about the B-58 Hustler, "Flying is the second greatest thrill known to man... landing is the first".

That B-58 is great. 220 knots, 12 degrees AOA, 220 knots, 12 degrees AOA, 220 knots, 12 degrees AOA... That's what I keep saying to myself during the approach. If you can keep that going all the way down to the runway, then flare and land at 200-215, she behaves quite well. If not, well, she'll kill you! :icon_lol:

Almost identical to the CaptSim F-104 - you've got to land it through a letterbox slot. F-102/106 and B-47 are the same way.

Sure is...

A lovely aircraft.
I could've sworn I had the ALPHASIM one somewhere, but anyhow became a customer!
GlowingHeat; what a name...

Landing, I kept tapping the airbrake which had a dramatic effect on speed

Erm, does this thing even HAVE an airbrake?? I couldn't find one externally.
Whatever, it is a great hotrod, what a toy it must have been in its day!

I HAVE got the Alphasim version, but shall be repurchasing; support your local designer, sort of thing - also slightly selfish, as it is apparent we can no longer expect support from Virtavia, so it makes sense.

Not wishing to thread hijack, but does anybody know who was behind the B-52, that is one I would dearly love to see back in the wild as I never did get around to purchasing it at the time?

The B-58 never had spoilers/air brakes. Establish a long approach, and STAY ON THE THROTTLES! Keep the nose up just enough to ensure a gradual descent. Try to have the Hustler lined up dead center with the runway, as soon as you can see the runway from the cockpit view. She comes in pretty hot so you have to have all your "stuff" together. I never use the spoiler key in flight... Once down on all 3 gear, pop the chute.
I have the AlphaSim Hustler and this landing technique works pretty good for me.

Air Force Pilots who flew the B-58 eloquently named her: "Big, Bad and Beautiful"

Wing_Z -- If that's your viddy, looks like you stuck that landing "Sierra Hotel". :salute: (Albeit a bit right of center...lol!)

I was behind their old B-52 for FS2004. It's not the best model out there. It's of lesser detail than the Hustler, and would look pretty out of date compared to the CS/Milviz version.....

To be honest the main reason I was interested was because of the AI version which was included; there was a pack of repaints & flightplans for Minot AB which used it, which would have been nice to have. But c'est la vie ....

The Captain Sim is FSX only I think? Although I do have, and can run, FSX I much prefer FS9 so wouldn't justify the expense.

CenturySeries,

How about releasing it for FS9 at a budget price? She's the only deal in town for FS9 (ex)payware, I'm sure it would attract agood few of us basement dwellers. Myself included, I also plan on grabbing the FS9 Hustler as soon as things settle down (so don't go getting rid of it when you update her to FSX, lol). If you have others, they may be of interest round these parts to.

regards,
Jamie

That may be a possibility.

We'll see. If anyone is interested please post here so I can try to gauge interest in the old Alphasim B-52G/H Stratofortress if it was on sale at a bargain basement price.
