Beautiful!

Is that a camera pod below the outboard engine in the first two screenshots?

Awesome - not just a Snoopy repaint - but the actual long nosed development version!!

thanks SO much!

DL

Thought I'd recognized it from an YF-12 kit I built last year; on that aircraft they used it to monitor the release of the AIM-47 missiles. I guess on the B-58 They would see what happens if the pod was released?

In actual fact the cameras were used to watch an air to air missile fall from the pod - the aircraft was used to test the radar and missile system being developed for the YF-12.

Thanks for the explanation, makes sense to use the same camera's too then. ;)

I am really really really waiting for this one. Remembering these beasts from my air force days.

I feel like in the coming months we'll be giving FSX a 60's cold war feel. If only we had some era sceneries to go along with the F-104s, F-84s, F-102s, F-4s, B-58s and T-2s...

This is very exciting indeed for 2014. I am hoping you can re-create the metal-like textures as seen with the Milviz F-86, the Skunkworks F-84 and Uncle Milton's DC-3. That would add a real level of realism to the package.

Milviz did a nice skin on this 3D model.

She has 2048 size textures with bump mapping, specular mapping and subtle reflectivity maps, I have tried to make it look as realistic as possible but remember, the Hustler was not generally polished in service, only the museums highly polished their Hustlers. However if you like the high reflectivity look you can always create new reflectivity maps etc.

+1. Agree too. External textures are too mat and no shiny/no reflections like here:

Hi Yoyo,

I think that shininess and reflectivity is a matter of personal taste. 080 pictured above looks to be a museum piece, and the prototypes would've been polished as no one would've wanted to see a rough metal looking brand new plane! As I say, there are reflective maps, however this is more subtle to reflect years in service. If you want to customise this for a museum piece look then that will be up to you. The Milviz scheme is very detailed and looks good, but in my opinion far too reflective for an operational aircraft.

As I say just personal opinion.

I also remember them being shiny. They weren't polished but you have to remember that they were only operational for about ten years, so they never got a chance to be tarnished much. 080 is at the Pima museum but it was polished several years ago and now looks like an operational aircraft would look.

This in no way denigrates the beautiful model you are creating. There are painters out there who will do there own thing when it's released. I for one can't wait to get this, thanks for all your hard work.

David, this a fabulous looking creation; thank you so much. And yes Bob, I for one will be trying hard to emulate the work Bomber_12th has done with his Mustangs and Harvards to represent the complex skinning and texturing of this beautiful beast.

Best regards
