B17 ferry flights

They'd have used the North Atlantic route.

All I know is we used to see flights of many hundreds of them flying over Beverly, Massachusetts. B-17s, B-24s and P-38s. You could hear their drone before they were sighted. I don't know where they came from or where they we going. They were just heading North East. Maybe some one else can add to this sightings and we'll get it figured out

They also staged out of Bangor, Maine. The field was called Dow AAF, and then became Dow AFB. It's no longer an active Air Force base, but it still is very busy as a transatlantic stopping point, and has a large AF reserve presence.

I saw a B-17 there awhile back, unfortunately I didn't have my camera with me then.

cool pics!! Bangor is a common refueling stop on the way to the middle east or europe.

Everyone else seems to have gotten to this before myself... so I will just share some pictures... as some of you will remember, my dad flew on Liberty Belle last summer and they followed the exact same route they flew in WWII...
Beginning with getting geared up in Bangor,
Then photos from the trip... North Atlantic, dad freezing, Greenland....

I have some 3000 some pictures if someone wants something in particular...

I think I saw the Liberty Belle there last summer. If it's the one I'm thinking of, didn't it have a mechanical problem that took a few days to fix? I was going to head accross the ramp and check it out, but ran short of time.
