Hi, I know firepower has its cfs3 b-24 but has anyone tried to model it? Is there one in worls?. thx.:wiggle:

its illegal to build one because a major company owen the rights to it and they want to get paid for the use of it.you can make skins for the one existing payware firepower b-24. but you aren't allowed by copyright law to build one.i'm no longer sure who owens it.it may be Boeing.there already was a legal contest over it years ago. so the answer is no.

Is that true??? what utter bl**dy nonsense, the law is truly an ass.

I wouldn't have thought it applied to someone from a 'normal' country making one though ..that's a joke btw!! :icon_lol:.

There was a rather lengthy thread in the Newshawks forum before the server crash about a guy who was being sued by Lockheed (Consolidated...the builder of the Liberator...was bought out and absorbed by Lockheed Martin) over an alleged copyright violation in that he created a 3D digital model of the B-24 and had that digital model listed on a site for sale. The site hosting the model was contacted by attorneys for Lockheed and was told that the model was in violation of the company's copyright and ordered the model yanked. It was. The guy faught back, with the support of some group who deals with this kind of thing....the model was put back up for sale.

Basically, creating a 3D digital representation of the Liberator was not in fact a violation of the copyright...building a real life Liberator would be.

There are a number of payware sim developers who have to pay some pretty stiff royalties and licensing fees to real world aircraft companies...which I think is silly, but then again, I think that 90% of the laws in the US are pointless and silly.

Freeware developers do not have to worry about copyright laws in that they are not making any money off their work.

Slipstream I cannot see how they can stop anyone making an original model of the aircraft. I am no legal expert, but I've done a quick Google and several other companies make a B-24 for FS 2004/X. What about the thousands (if not millions) of images there are about and the paintings and prints there are of the aircraft. Not to mention the restored B-24's there are about They surely would be covered by any copyright law too. Have all these people given Boeing a payment? Then there is also the B-17 & B-29 models, should we pull them too? I'm not having a go at you mate and I havent your info, but like Pat I find this incredible. But then as Pat said often the law is an ass. :angryfir:

Sorry about the tub-thumping guys:redface:

I agree beau. Making a model for the pc to be shared by everyone as long as no money is made on it is a God given right. Otherwise why bother making a flight sim at all? for just one plane or a few is ridiculous. It would be nice if Lockheed made us a b24 if they dont want someone from athird party to make one. Thy have pc experts there to make models.:wiggle:

Okay this has become a big debate, but since there are several Freeware B-24's for both CFS1 and CFS2 why doesn't someone contact the builders of these aircraft and get permission to convert them to CFS3 ?? It would solve a Big GAP in the aircraft needs of our beloved flight sim..
And as a Great man here in the US once said
"We have Lawed our self's into lawlessness"..
and this is from a man who sat on the supreme court of the Land here..
Perhaps we all should encourage someone to convert a CFS or CFS2 aircraft to CFS3, it has been done with the P-39, and the japanese George, why not a B-24?? I'd love to see it..
And if and when I develop the skills with G max I will build one myself..But to be Honest so far with gmax all I can do is Build a Box.. and a simple house..LOL..But I haven't given up ..
And I do encourage any of our Masters here to concider converting a CFS or CFS2 model over..
Perhaps that day is coming..:applause:

You make sense hobitt. forgot about the p-39 conversion. youa re right there are several B-24 models from cfs 2. Just need an interest and permission.:jump:

Its not illegal to build a freeware version of the Liberater, if it were, there would be a lot of guys in court, lol As long as it stays freeware, you can build it anytime.

Liberator

We have two liberator models that to convert would require as much work as making a new plane. There was a great model in cfs2, forgot would made it. The best bet would be looking at the newer stuff in fs series and see if someone would give it to us.

BTW - converting form cfs2 to cfs3 is a task, especially if you want decent gunstations.

Ok I am new to the forums and to this site..First off I love WWII aircraft and sims..2nd I am an old man....hehehehe...Well ok my 2 cents...It is not I say again not illegal to create a model for the
game as long as you are not selling it...The makers of firepower don't own the rights to the B24 Lockheed does..They had to get permission from Lockheed to be able to create it for the game and sell it...If you or I do it for fun it is ok....Just mention in a read me file that you wish to than Lockheed for making a great plane....That's just good form...

Hi every-one,

As long as it is freeware, there is no problem creating your own version of a B-24.

Far more important is the question: who has the skills to make an AI-version of the plane?
For the people who actually want to fly it: they best purchase the Firepowerversion.
An AI-version is a lot easier to make than an plane with a full cockpit.
With the scarcity of good modellers around that sounds like the best option.

Well This has taken on a life of its own. As I said...

A Freeware AI version would be great, I would Love to build missions with it..
i am not good enough with G Max to do it..
Perhaps our Great model makers will beable at some time to do this..
I am sure there will be a Great Demand for it..Most Likely whom ever does it will reach "Sainthood" for it..:applause:

Look at this version. I have used this guy's work before. It is first rate from what I remember. Now, if 12 guys cough up 5.00 a piece or so, I'll make us one - an AI first and if I can get a certain Steve to buck up .......

Let me know -

S**t Nacht, put me down on the list of 12

If the AI version is much more FPS-friendly than the FP version without turning into an ugly look-a-like of a B-24, I would be willing to donate too.
I always had the feeling that it was the VC that made my FPS drop. It couldn't be the plane itself, because I don't think it is that detailed. I think that if they had done proper LOD-ing, it would have been a much nicer model.
