B52 or SU-27?

IanHenry

Charter Member
I have found that I have a little spare cash, so I was thinking about getting either the CaptSim B52 or the Flight 1 SU-27, and would like to know the opinions of members who have those aircraft.
I understand that they are completely different aircraft, and really it’s a personal thing, but how do they compare for quality of flight modelling, VC and general overall quality?
I know Flight 1 has an advantage due to their excellent refund policy, but I would feel a bit of a fraud sending it back “because I didn’t like it”
Any opinions gratefully received.

Don't have the Su-27 but I have the B-52. Great aircraft. External model is well detailed and flies great. Some people have had trouble starting engines but is a non-event for me. Lots of paints available.

Those planes are sort of on opposite ends of the spectrum......

Do you want to drive a truck or a Ferrari? That's sort of the comparison here.

I have the CS B-52 and really like it. However, it's not the type of plane I'm going to fly if I "feel the need for speed" and want to punch holes in the sky.

I guess it comes down to what type of flying do you most want to do.

i personally have the b-52 but not the su-27. i love the buff and it is very fun to take for bombing runs in death valley.

Thanks guys,
All opinion seems to be for the B-52, although I must admit I am leaning towards the SU-27. It doesn’t look like many people has it though, which can’t really be a point in its favour.

I was in the beta for the Su-27, and I must say it is an amazing aircraft to fly, the power and manouverability is well modeled in my opinion and the 3d modeling is pretty nice, too, some said the external model would be too basic, but that´s not my opinion, the textures look great, it is easy on frames, a nice aircraft all in all!

Don´t have the B-52 for comparision, but it wouldn´t be my style of aircraft anyway, as Lateral-G said, it´s a matter of what aircraft you want anyway. I for myself wouldn´t know what to do with a B-52, ok, it would be fun for a short time, a couple of low flybys and such, but I don´t think I´d use it for long. The Su-27 on the other hand is excellent for jet aerobatics, and has a nice radar to track down innocent AI planes, it´s in for a lot of fun, just my opinion....

I have both aircraft. As for the BUFF, as i mentioned earlier in a thread regarding this CS aircraft, it has not given me any joy so far, though stunning in appearance. The persistent start-up trouble and the harsh attitude at CS customer support; "...we have not encountered these problems, ticket closed..." make this product no match for the SU-27.
The SU-27 is as described by Mr Mugel. A very agile and handsome fighter aircraft with selectable payloads, a very nice DVC, many liveries and excellent flight characteristics. IMHO a winner and in combination with CS weapons a double winner!

:wiggle:

I've got both and whilst I consider them to each be essential purchases I'd go for the SU-27 now. It's such a delightful aircraft to fly, so tactile and fun.

I want the BUFF so badly. I just can't throw down the cash yet. I love big bombers and for the accusim B-17 is just unbelieveable due to the integration of the crew. Now to have a B-52 done like that would be out of this world. I think I will get the B-52 as soon as I can and try some super long flights with her.

I have the B-52 but I don't have the SU-27. What I can say is that the BUFF is a tremendous model. It's an iconic aircraft and given that it now has a well-modeled cockpit (although not a fully-'systemized' one) it's fun to fly. For me the visuals and texturing on the aircraft are almost unmatched.

it boils down too, "do you wanna dance? or do you wanna glide??" the Buff will glide you through the air with style and grace, but the fulcrim will show you how to dance in the sky.. its really that simp0le..

I note what warrant says about CaptSim’s customer support, that’s another plus for Flight 1 as their support has never been anything short of superb.
Warrant also mentioned the CaptSim weapons pack, which is interesting because I was thinking about getting the Vertical Reality one as I have their Superbug, and I know it will be excellent, but do wonder about their software developer’s kit which is to follow and whether it will be easy to integrate it into other aircraft.
Having said that I don’t really envisage killing many people in FSX, it’s the “extras” that the VR one includes that appeal to me.

I purchased the CS weapons pack since it is the first to be released. Will purchase other weapon packs as well, if they offer improvement in IR off-boresight engagements, active homing BVR-missiles (preferably with some sort of radar improvement (with search, track while scan and single tgt track mode) and with IFF system integrated) and some smart air to surface weaponry. It would be nice to have simulated laser guidance (e.g. hat switch with pipper on tgt simulating HMS, and bomb away, within a certain bracket and sustaining target illumination untill impact o/c). Fun part so far with the CS weapon's package, with some maintenance under the hood it will work with literally every aircraft.

Back to topic: Tried the B-52 again last night........bummer, same problems. Gonna delete it, or get rid of all heavy stuff and use it as AI.
Flew the Flanker as well, what a joy! Sad thing is i did not see much repaints for it on the web, unless i missed something.

I have been very busy of late butaim to get the paint kit and extended manual for the Flanker completed soon. Once the paint templates are up you will find you could probably do a new skin for it in a couple of hours.

Whoohoo! That would be mavellous!
Gonna post a link here or do i have to get back to the shop?

Well, I decided to buy the B 52, which is very nice (still haven’t worked out how to turn on the screen in the middle of the panel yet); it’s a pity they put their web address underneath that!
Had two test flights and crashed one, I’ll describe the other as a “heavy landing” (still wrecked the airplane though), but I think the pilot is to blame (he still blames the aircraft!)
I think I will still get the SU 27 sometime though.
Many thanks for all your help,
Ian. <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:eek:ffice:eek:ffice" />

B-52

All I know is that I would watch the B-52's fly over. They would be in an echelon of three at 35000 ft. leaving contrails. If they had a target near us, we would watch the three contrails turn into one. We knew then that they were dropping ordinance. Depending on their direction, there were times that we would see their entire load pass over the base. They dropped so close one day that the urinals fell off the head walls. I never thought that I would feel sorry for someone who wanted to kill me but I felt sorry for the poor bastards that got caught under that archlight. They may not have looked graceful but they packed a huge punch.
