Back home again - with a Purple Heart

I'm glad to be back. But... There is a part of me that feels this was a cheap way of getting the medal. It's a broken ankle, somethimg you could do falling down the stairs, It's not like I took a bullet.

Granted, a broken ankle is infinitely preferable to losing a limb or getting punctured.

Don't even think that way, Cybr. You sustained the broken ankle during somebody's unsuccessful attempt to KILL YOU and your fellow soldiers. Better timing or better placement of the IED and you all could've bought the farm. Gaping wounds and missing parts are not required for the Purple Heart, you earned yours as much as any other combat-injured soldier.

I hope the WTC at Fort Hood is as good as the one at Fort Lewis and that you make a full recovery.

Thank goodness for the V-hull in those vehicles! Sorry to hear of your injuries, but in less well protected vehicles... well... :icon_eek:

Jagd, everyon I've talked to says the WTB at Hood is the best of the best. Impressed with them thus far.

V-hull indeed. Truck is complete toast, but we're all fine.

It would seem to me that in many places bullets seem to be "old school". Your ankle got broken when someone tried to kill you using something else.

I so wish that I could personally shake your hand and say "Thank You" for your service to our country, but I will go with this here... :salute: :USA-flag:

You have my best wishes for a speedy and complete recovery.

Many thanks from another American who is grateful every day for all soldiers who put their lives on the line around the world. While I am saddened by your injuries, I am overjoyed you should (hopefully) make a full recovery. Any accolades you receive for your circumstances is well deserved, whether you "took a bullet" or not! :salute:

Dang! That looks like it was a serious break!!! Put 100% effort into your recovery and you'll be fine.
 
MAN!!! That looks like a shark bite. You take care of yourself, Cybr, and do whatever you have to do to get better. PLEASE take care of yourself.

I was quite surprised as well. Yesterday was the first time I've seen the incision.

I feel I must mention that pictured is just the incision. My break was not a compound one, but the hardware required to help it heal is quite extensive. 2 plates and about 13 screws.

Also, the small circular wounds are where the external fixator was attached to my leg and foot, though you cannot see the two lower on my shin or the one on either side of my heel where a pin was drilled through.
 
Cybr, After a few months, it will be as good as new. Now, in about 45 - 50 years you will start feeling it again. I know, because I speak here of experience......:jump::icon_lol:
 
i developed arthritus throughout my spine after my back injury.....man..not to be a downer...but i had NOTHING wrong with me per-injury..was even in good shape..had abs the girls liked...lol..now im fat and lasy and have so many things wrong with me i wanna just give up some days......sigh.....

but YOU hang in there and get better...its all worth it ....really..i know that sounded like a downer up there...that was me..not about you...yer young and strong..and healthy...and proud...keep up the good work bud...yer in there ..stay there...
