Back to good old CFS2

Fighterpilot

Members +
Just started to get back into CFS2 after too long a break. Haven't played it properly for several years and i am looking to rebuild it to somehing like i had it before but with all the new advances. When i last flew cfs2 series properly the YAS spits were appearing and CFS2 Korea was fairly new I think. I hope I might even get back into building missions again. See CFS2brits http://www.angelfire.com/ab5/cfs2brits/ for the couple already released although i suspect they are probably a little outdated now. Incidentally i was suprised to see my website listed in the cfs2 links thread at Netwings, never thought the site demanded that much attention.

I am looking at installing maskriders scenery and nibbios old effects. What other more recent additions would be good. At the moment i would like to get a good pacific theatre going before setting my sites on the eto.

It certainly feels good to be back in CFS2 been usin IL2 for a while but when a Zero stayed with me in a dive with a P-38 i thought of going back to the one true combat flight simulator, its been too long.

You should start off by downloading airfields by Xavierb and MaskRider. :welcome:

Welcome back! This is the place to hang out Fighter Pilot.

Take a tour through the CFS 2 library. We've had so many great add ons since you left that it would be hard to list them all.

Thanks Guys, spent quite a bit of time now looking around and haven't done nearly enough flying yet! Downloading an awful lot of stuff as well as some of my old favorites (In Defence of Australia etc) and wondering why i ever left really, think i had problems running it for a time although cant really remember.

Richard

FP,

One word of advice. Go slow and don't add too much at one time and have a plan so that you don't end up with a hodge podge of conflicting files.

wise advice, as i said i hope to get a good PTO install together before building up a european theatre. I'm tying to be a little picky about what i download at the moment but there is ust so much good stuff.

Fighterpilot

Excuse me, Fighter, but...

...aren't you making a huge leap of faith in assuming you'll be allowed back into the CFS2 community, after deserting like a rat from a sinking ship to seemingly greener pastures at some other flash-in-the-pan sim? :faint:

Fortunately, you are correct! :engel016: :welcome:...back.

Cfs2 is like your first girlfriend, you never forget her. Except, Cfs2 seems to be getting better with age. Welcome back. :ernae:

Thanks Guys, I knew i'd get a good welcome back. Believe me I would have loved to have stayed with CFS2 if i could have. If i remember I had graphical problems I was unable to solve (blame the fact that i have been forced to use laptops recently).

Going to spend the rest of my evening now getting lots of stuff installed before firing up the old beast and seeing if i can still fly. Had my first approach at a carrier last night, wasn't pretty.

One question do Xavierb's airfields as well as maskriders overlap or duplicate each other at all?

Richard

Well I am going to get on and install maskriders scenery first then move onto xaviers as i need to get the meshes etc first. I know i said i wasn't going to go ETO yet but just out of interest what are the best addons for airbases now? When i was building my campaigns i was using cfs1 runways. There must be replacements for these now?

Having a blast getting back into it.

Richard

Richard,

Achim27619 is in the process of overhauling all of the CFS1 runways, and is currently about 65% complete. All bases in England have been done, and there are bases in France, Germany, Norway, Belgium, Iceland, and Holland.

You may want to consider a Mediterranean install as well. :woot:

If you are interested in Europe, I am currently overhauling European campaigns for CFS2.

Welcome back to the basement Fighterpilot! :ernae:

Down here we don't harken to those in the new fangled computer simulations that suppose to look real and act real, we are the real McCoy down here. :caked:

Man, do you have some catching up to do!:173go1:

I recommend starting out by doing multiple installs or you are gonna get overwhelmed.

C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Combat Flight Simulator 2 (Pristine, no mods)
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\ETO\Combat Flight Simulator 2
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\MTO\Combat Flight Simulator 2
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\PTO\Combat Flight Simulator 2
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\KTO\Combat Flight Simulator 2

Even if you do not get into other theaters initially, you will have them available as you see stuff you want to get and install for later.

Oh, and to do multiples, remember DOS command REM(space) for each new install from disk. Then do a CFS2.ini file listing each install.

Rami's far too modest to sggest it himself, but download one of his campaigns. It will give you a good selection of planes and scenery (the Med., Europe or the old USSR) and are fun to fly. Don't forget his Europe-scenery-install-guide. It's invaluable. :greenbo:

I also recommend for you to download this other utility which will allow you to have up to Eighteen Hangars per install Acman. Look for it in the CFS2 Utility section here http://www.mnwright.btinternet.co.uk/ You still need the Stock planes in every new Hangar for it to work properly.

Last but not least also read this post from page one to the last page http://www.simviation.com/cgi-bin/ya...1117604819/all and this post http://forums.netwings.org/forums/showthread.php?t=27

This are my recomendation for upgrading the Pacific scenries in CFS2!

This are my tips on how to improve your Pacific sceneries.

This is what I recommend to improve your Pacific Theater scenery.

First you should get Stiz wonderful World Texures.

1.http://www.simviation.com/cfs2scenery17.htm
and also this package of Aifields for Asia here CFS2 Eastern Asia WWII Runways Scenery Full Consolidated Package.

Then I would get the Pacific Coast upgrade.

2.http://www.simviation.com/cfs2scenery11.htm

Following that install CFS2 Tropical Texture.

3.http://www.simviation.com/cfs2scenery12.htm

You can also install Stiz Pacific Ocean Texure by Stiz.

4.http://www.simviation.com/cfs2scenery17.htm

You can also fix the Pacific Ocean with Stiz Pactex 1 to 5 folders. Remember the Pactex is just for fun. You can the different shore looks as you with Pactex folder 5.

5.http://www.demons7th.com/pactex.html

The best Japan Scenery available is this one.

6.http://flightinfo.ens.ne.jp/tmurakam/terrain/

Or you can try this one if you like.

7.http://members.at.infoseek.co.jp/fsclubnet/

You can also install the Philippines sceneries I install. Its of very good quality.

8.http://www.sim-outhouse.com/master_ftp/cfs2/cfs2-scenery/

You should also install eawwii Asia 360 Airfields complete and Japan Mainland airfield package of 93 airfields.

9.http://www.netwings.org/library/CFS2%5FScenery/index-3.html

You can improve your Burma scenery by installing Lowengrin Burma Dynamic Campaign and installing his Burma scenery. Beside its a pretty good Campaign.

10.http://members.shaw.ca/dcgen/dcg_burma.html

You should also get Maskrider Scenery packages. They are one of my favorite. They include beautiful Pacific Theater Airfields.

11.http://www.netwings.org/library/Microsoft%5FCFS2/Maskrider%5FScenery/

I also recommend Stiz or LW Clouds at Sim-ouhouse. They are quite a improvement over the stock clouds. You can also get new clouds at:

12.http://fsw.simflight.com/

NEW

You can also install Hawaii scenery from this Website.

13.http://fly.to/mwgfx

Alaskan scenery.

14.http://rcaf440redbat.homestead.com/Scenery.html

Go to its CFS2 scenery section and you will find there.

A simple explanation I found on how to activate new sceneries.

14.http://flug.hp.infoseek.co.jp/enghow.htm

Now you do not have any excuses. You can not tell your family you will not take them to Europe and visit London or Paris. You can"t say you can not effort to fly to the Far East. Its available with a Joystick and a good plane. You have over one thousand plane to chose from. All you have to do is wait until the war is over. Other wise you might be shot down. LoL

Just enjoy it as much as possible.

This is not the only good sceneries available for this Sim. This are my suggested sceneries only.

I hope I have been helpful

Now I"m enjoying this Sim more than ever and I hope you are as well. Now you can fly all over the World in what ever Theater you want with visual style.

I enjoy flying as much over the European Theater as the Pacific Theater. I hope you do to. They both give me a special kind of joy.

I hope I have been helpful
