Here are some screens from an early morning flight with a classic post-WWI Curtiss Jenny. (As I've been asked before, this isn't a repaint, but rather one of the stock paint schemes. I've simply blacked-out the alpha channel for the decals, thus making them disappear - having felt that it looks better without the garish graphics.)

Hi John,
I agree it looks better with the decals alpha blacked out. Is that the FsX native mdl version btw which is available in downloads?

It is, indeed. ; ) The level of sheen/shine that is "built into" the model really makes it look brilliant when the light catches it.

Now, at some point, I need to get around to getting back to work on the Standard J-1 I started working on a long while ago (inspired by "The Great Waldo Pepper") - would make a great and fitting companion to the Jenny (as would a DeHavilland DH.4).

Beautiful screenshots John, as usual.
That Jenny was surely one of my favorite models back in the FS9 days. But even today, I think it's still a very nice 3D model.
The flight model was one of the most challenging I've seen, because of the under-powered engine. It was really difficult to climb with that plane.
Heck, I think I'm going to reinstall that FSX native version soon.

By the way, if I'm not mistaken, beside that FS9-original-converted-to-FSX-native bird, there was another FSX-native Jenny, wasn't there ?

Hey Daube, you're absolutely correct. There is another set of FSX-native Jenny's, by Dirk Stuck (which I think are loosely based off of the MS Jenny model). You can find that set at Avsim under the filename curtiss_full.zip and it includes 4 different variants (one with floats), a Ford Model-T, and scenery.

Thanks for the info John. I couldn't remember where I saw it.
The mention of the Ford T indicates this is the package I was thinking about. Strangely, I didn't remember at all about the floats version :)

Classic pics. Wonderful!

Daube, you'll find Dirk's Jenny very difficult to fly. Take-off's especially. I've always wondered if there was something wrong with the FM. Admittedly is was somewhat underpowered, but by all reports the Jenny was quite docile in the air.

There is also this one GUID 4EE46D45-C0ED-4DB9-9D3E-6E0CD94AE5D8 - btw I think you need to adjust the height up a fraction (if you don't mind me saying).

It's the way it came out of the box - so to speak. I don't have a clue on how to raise the height.

Files are mixture dds and bgl.

Well, I have reinstalled it, and tried only the floats version. To be honnest, the plane was much easier to fly than the original FS9 version. It is still slow and everything, but it seems to have a little bit more power and climbs more easilly. But I'm going to uninstall it. Some textures didn't appear correctly, I don't know why. Perhaps the install process included some steps I overlooked.
The plane seems to be "untextured" in fact.

I like the look of the original aircraft and textures much more, so I'll uninstall Dirk's one and install the FS9-FSX-native one instead.
