Basic campaign question

Pat Pattle

SOH-CM-2025
Howdy folks, it's been a long time since I fired up the campaign, my lad wanted to have a go but he can't get started....
When he goes to select a pilot it says something like 'can't place a squadron given frontline shape'.
I do recall reading about this in the past but can't find the answers so would appreciate any help please!

Btw it's a new stock install with FirePower added.

Thanks,

Pat. :)

if it's the stock campaign with the stock CFS3 then... well all you have to do is try, try and try again, this may finally work!!

I had this problem while building campaigns in the past and I had to modify the settings but it doesn't seems to be the case for you as you're flying the stock campaign.

Hi Pat, often the error message does not directly relate to the problem. Usually the fix for the error message is to check that you have a valid bomber and fighter available for EACH country involved in the campaign, as at the start date of the campaign.

In the tech tree of the campaign, I often also find mismatches between the aircraft start date in the techtree, and the start date in the xdp file for the aircraft. These dates should match. Its strange they are not working in a stock install.

Its a good idea to keep the number of aircraft called in the techtree to a minimum, simply to avoid mismatches. You also need to think about aircraft end dates in their xdp files, just in case a "gap" occurs over the campaign duration, where there is not a fighter and a bomber available for each participating nation.

I rely on good spawn files to give variation in the campaign, rather than loading up a whole swag of aircraft in the techtree.

Very occasionally, there IS actually a problem with squadron spacing/distance to the frontline and the number of squadrons per HQ, etc, however I always concentrate on ensuring the integrity of the techtree first, because that is where 85% of the problems come from.

Thanks for the replies gents :) I'm wondering if it's something to do with him adding Firepower then if it could be an aircraft releated problem. Will take a look. Thanks,Clive
