British Columbia is experiencing a record number of fires this summer. Officials are saying that some may burn until winter.

I hadn't heard that BC was burning. Seems as though the entire western coast of this continent is aflame.

As bad as the situation is, I couldn't help but see a lot of beauty in those pictures. Not because of the destruction and potential lives lost, but because those pictures are very well composed, very vibrant.

the one with the helicopter,,its caption says its a control burn during a wildfire..so it would be a backburn..one of the most effective ways to fight a large wildfire...you move ahead of the active fire line and start a new fire ,called a backburn..and torch it...then there is no fuel for the fire to burn when it gets there..the backburn of course is done in a very controled enviroment, air attack, engines, handcrews,,all involved
