Beaufighter progress...

To all,

Bismarck13 sent me a beta version of his updated Collin Muir Beaufighter, and my jaw just about went through the floor. It's still a work in progress, there are a couple of needed tweaks, especially the weapons loadouts. I'd like to use either Groundcrew or Dbolt's weapons for her.

Still, he certainly delivered the goods, that's for sure. I thought you'd might want to see.

Thanks for an outstanding job, Bismarck! :friday:

Would anyone be willing to work with her, and perhaps tweak the weapons loadouts...bombs, droptanks, rockets, that kind of thing? And, perhaps an airfile tweaker.

Please PM me, and be part of getting this outstanding update perfected so we can all have it!

The beau is one of my favs. What does the "update" mean?

New air- & dp-file? Or any tweaks on theb model itself?

He updated the model.

Direct quote..."The aircraft was made quickly, so the VC is sort of slapped together. I think the model is pretty good. It has breaking parts and LODs and doesn't slow down my machine at all . . ."

There's a couple of other issues that need to be settled before it's upload-ready.

Actually . .

It is a brand new model. So, I made it in a couple of weeks . . .

I used some skins by Morton to save time. I had to modify the wings just a bit and the cockpit textures. I hope he won't mind . . .

This is a Beaufighter Mk VI with the rear .303 gun.
I used stock weapons and stock zero sounds, so a lot can be improved.

BUT a note on the .dp file. The left and right elevators and stabilizers are set to break as the left and right wing tips and the rudder will break as the tail, so the .dp file is tricky to set. The wings break as wings . . .

Oh, this is the latest version with some real engines in the nacelles . . .

Rami,
Thanks for the info.

Bis,
Great to have a decent Beau, many thanks!

Are you planning to do other marks?

Cheers Shessi

Colin's Beaus needed an update to align them to the level CFS2 reached!

Rami, a while back I uploaded replacement dp's for Colin's Beaus with RAF weapons: check it out. If you want I can send you updated prop textures as well. I used Rebuffat's RAF bombs, Mosquito RAF rockets and rails and Cryingtoto's RAF wing pylons.

Get the latest "UPDATE" file, it was one of my first tweaks and I uploaded it on June 2005 together with field-modified extra payloads for Beaufighter MkIC

Cheers!

this is what alphasim offers in their payware

That is why its payware . . .
I am surely not competing with Alphasim in any way. The whole idea was that Rami needed a FREEWARE aircraft that he could include in a campaign he is making. You cannot very well design a freeware campaign that lots of people will want to download if it requires payware aircraft. And even if the Alphasim version was available as freeware, as many of their older stuff is, you still have to get their permission to include it in a download. So Rami, and others, convinced me that a new aircraft might be a better alternative to what was available. I don't usually make anything that has ever been done before, that way I don't have to compete with much better modelers or payware companies . . . .

Rest assured these models will get used en force. In fact, an entire campaign is being designed around it, as well as its use in Pedestal / Mezzagosto. The Beaufighter is a British aircraft that, like the Mosquito and the American P-38 Lightning, I would LOVE to see get some representation in Europe and the Mediterranean.

AlphaSim has pretty much abandoned CFS2. Most of the FS birds can be converted, usually with crappy FRs & sometimes, animation glitches. Bismarck's offerings are CFS2 specific & ALWAYS are FR friendly for those of us who actually use them in missions :a1451: . I am truly pleased to see him back in action!
