Beech Twin Bonanza in FSX

It's Eric Dantes model ported into FSX SP2. Old as it is, the VC is quite decent (this is simlilar to the Falcon 50 that got upgraded here recently) and the exterior model looks excellent in FSX. Save for one problem: the props and spinners disappear when moving (day/night does not make a difference). Tried a recent prop mod at avsim "for FS2004/FSX" but think that was for pre FSX/SP2 as it made no difference. Similar to the effect of Miltons Beech 18 in FSX until someone did an effective conversion.

Any experts here think of any tweak to the alpha layers or maybe even a hex editor tweak to the model that could sort this out? Shame if not, as it has that classic 50's style and otherwise fun to fly.

I think you hit the nail on the head when you mentioned a similar problem with Milton's aircraft until it got a proper "conversion". I have the same problem with an airplane I'm flying right now. It is related to the prop disc in the mdl file and how it's coded to show transparency. Changing the prop blur has no effect because that's an external mod. The only way to fix what ails these planes is to either get the source code and do it yourself, contact the designer and see if he'll knock out a revised mdl file, or have someone do a full FSX conversion (they would still need the source files). Too bad, I always enjoyed flying the twin but the prop disc really kills the look unfortunately.

Can you copy in another prop disk (back up original and rename new to the Beech's prop name) from another plane with a similar type of prop?

Trial and error.

Thanks Ed - believe you are spot on there with your assessment. Not sure whether we ever got in touch with Eric Dantes re the recent FSX updates here but maybe we can at least get permission for someone to have a go at it. The DS 18 had wide enough appeal for someone to do that conversion.

No, mainly because as I mentioned, the offending prop disc is basically a "placeholder", a part of the model that designates the position of the rotating prop. That disc has to be coded to show transparency correctly in FSX (which is different, obviously, than that of FS9). The prop blur that shows in the texture file is an external texture that shows the visuals of a rotating prop, but has no effect on the disc showing on the Eric Dante Twin or some other FS9 portovers.
