'Believe It Or Not, I'm Watching'

My wife has "caught" my watching that show a few times. :icon_lol: It reminds me of when my parents used to watch it. Remember those days? When you only had one TV in the house and only 3 channels to watch.
 
There were a lot of talented people on the Welk show. Joe Feeney was about the best Irish tenor around, and few people were the equal of Myron Floren on the accordion.
 
Nay hark, not I, didn't like it in the 60s and 70s, don't care for it now. That being said, for the record, Andra Willis grew up in Danville and went to GW High School, graduating two years before me. She started singing sock hops with a local band called the Freddie Lee orchestra. So there is a close connection in the Lawrence Welk Show and Danville, VA. My grandfather and grandmother and father and mother watched the show religiously. Andra's family lived on the same street as my Grandfather, five houses up.

I don't know if he was telling me the truth or not, but I served with a Seabee CPO who was a cousin of Lawrence Welk. He told me that the accent L. Welk had was fake. That when he would show up for family reunions.....the accent was gone, period. Only when in public on tv, etc.....

But I remember watching his show with my parents, definitely!

My parents watched that Lawrence Welk show every Sunday evening. My Dad's best friend, Gary, would come by to watch it with them. Mom and Dad liked the music variety...Gary could frankly care less for the music...he like the one Latin gal....can't remember her name...but Dad and Gary called her the Hot Tomale! And she was HOT!

I remember watching Lawrence Welk, but my favorite was Mitch Miller ( Sing Along with Mitch ).
After his shows I'd head for the bathroom and practice the oboe for hours ( great acoustics in the bathroom ).
