Ha... This thread has me kinda stumped. I don't know really what my favourite British vintage plane is, probably Dave Garwood's Rapide. i love this one, because it has a varient (HG691) which I've actually flown in.

That depends on where you draw the 'vintage' line I guess.
If you say 50+ years old then the Chippy qualifies but that just makes me feel old!
I have flown Chippies in RL and they would not have been considered 'vintage' at that time.
I have heard a rumour that Rick was working on a full blown FSX version of the Chippy but that was a while ago now so I have no idea how it's progressing or even if it's still a going concern. I still fly the FS9 v3 in FSX regardless.......gotta have my Chippy!
Alas I've never flown one in RL...just sat in 'em. According to Rick, the FSX version is still on the cards and I'll await that with baited breath. In the mean time I'm very happy with V3.:ernae:
I was chatting Rick a few weeks ago, now he is employed as a pro 3D modeler, it is a bit like working at something that was a hobby, you do not have as much time (or inclination.....I think the term used to be 'busman's holiday') to do 'free' stuff. as when you were working at some unconnected job to 3D modelling.
He has several projects on the go at the moment (including a native SP2 Chippy, if I remember correctly), but due to work pressures and problems sourcing decent technical info, they have no timescales at all.

my deffinition of vintage is if its older than me then it qualifies! So DG's Hunters!

I love threads like this, they never fail to bring up models I've never heard of, like this one - what a beauty! Any suggestions for a sound pack? I don't think the default Lycoming sounds do it any favours.

Blighted they may have been but it's still a stunning piece of engineering. I would dearly love a good one for FSX.
The question which is best, really can't be answered by me. Among many other things it depends on my mood sometimes I like low and slow and something I like something faster.
The freeware FSX models all show the craftsmanship from the person who did them. All designers have their own style so it is hard to compare them.
I liked Dave Garwood's Dominie already in FS9 and I still love ot in FSX. I particulary like the fact the texture lay-out remaind the same. As there are millions of repaints done for the FS9 model, there are already a milion repaints for the FSX version as well.
As I normally prefer military aircrafts the Bristol Fighter by Robby88 is definitely among my favourites as well.
But as said I can't answer which is best. Sometimes I prefer meat and sometimes I prefer fish......

As well as being payware (the originator of this thread specified freeware only) the AS Hunter is not exactly the most accurate Hunter on MSFS, even the wingtips are the wrong shape! Dave Garwood's is so much better and is free. The original (FS9 version) also has the full endorsement of an ex-RAF Hunter display pilot too!

A classic which is high on my wishlist is the Buccaneer "banana jet". I will never forget the takeoff they did leaving RAF Fairford after the 1993 IAT, basically they just retracted the gear without pulling up:
The only model I can think of that looks like the real thing is an old FS2004 one from Alphasim. There was a more recent attempt from UKMIL but unfortunately the exterior has some major flaws. Finally now an FSX model is in the works: Check out the WIP blog at http://www.flyingstations.com/

When I worked at Soesterberg they occasionally visited the air base. It was always a spectacular sight to see them leave. There was just enough runway to get clear from the trees.
